  • Lunch and Learn - Powering the Future: Celebrating Global Energy Independence Day with Green Apprenticeships

Join us this Global Energy Independence Day for a 60-minute webinar that explores the pivotal role of apprenticeships in the green energy sector. As the world pivots towards sustainable energy sources, the need for skilled professionals who can innovate, manage, and maintain renewable energy technologies is more crucial than ever. This webinar aims to illuminate the pathways that apprenticeships create towards a sustainable tomorrow.

Started in 2006 by an L.A. County Supervisor to coincide with the birth of pioneering electrical engineer Nikola Tesla, Global Energy Independence Day has risen in significance over the last two decades as we continue to reckon with the impacts of climate change on our wallets and out communities. In ICF and net.America’s work, we recognize the critical role of workforce development in a just and timely transition from legacy energy sources to innovative solar, wind, battery, and biomass fuels. We are adding to the conversation by convening a panel of experts who lie at the intersection of workforce development and energy efficiency work. These experts will address all sides of the energy question from generation to use and conservation in multiple sectors of America’s economy.

Celebrate Global Energy Independence Day with us and discover how apprenticeships are powering the future of green energy!

  • How to Leverage Existing Resources for Apprentices: Taking Advantage of Energy Apprenticeships in 2024 and Beyond

Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAPs) provide social

and economic benefits to people of all backgrounds and previous economic or
educational experiences. These advantages include minimal standardized testing
requirements, paid training participation, progressive wage increases, and entry
into growing sectors of the economy such as clean energy infrastructure
development. Apprenticeships have the dual benefit of creating a pipeline of
talent for employers and expanding economic opportunities for those without a
traditional college degree or previous employment experience. In combination,
apprenticeships have uplifting economic and social impacts in local communities.

    However, apprenticeships remain underutilized by

employers and those entering the workforce alike. On the apprentice side,
people may be unaware of what 21st Century apprenticeships look and
feel like; on the employer side, creating an apprenticeship program may be perceived
as too challenging or demanding. Addressing both sides of this challenge will
help spread apprenticeships and their benefits across the country.

Gaining a fuller understanding of apprenticeships, their

benefits, and the resources available at all levels of government and from
non-governmental organizations to support apprenticeship creation and expansion
can benefit all parties in the apprenticeship world.
