  • Nobody Ever Asked How You Want to Feel Here

    Send us Fan Mail

Your environment is not a background. It is taking part in your day, every hour, whether anyone designed it that way or not.

For twenty years Etienny Trindade sat in meetings about how many people fit, what equipment was needed and what the budget allowed, and asked a question nobody else was asking: how do you want people to feel in here? For most of those twenty years, people looked at her as though she had changed the subject.

In this episode she tells you where this work came from. The interior design shop she started in at seventeen in Brazil. The evening an office air conditioner switched off at half past six and ten people exhaled at the same moment, after eight hours of saying nothing. Finding out later in life that she is autistic, and realising the sensitivity she had treated as separate from her work was the reason the work was good.

And why her why has changed. She is no longer trying to prove a different way is possible. She wants people to know it already exists.

In this episode you will learn

    • Why a space can meet every requirement on paper and still exhaust the people inside it
    • What the environment is taking from you before you begin your work
    • Why designing for the person who finds a place hardest makes it better for everybody
    • What happened in a research hub when the light, the colour and the kitchen changed
    • Why awareness, not proof, is the point of this work
    • The one thing to do tonight when you walk through your door

    Start by noticing

You do not need to be a designer to begin. Tonight, walk in and notice how you feel. Notice where you naturally want to sit, and where you find yourself getting irritated or distracted. Change nothing. Just become curious. Awareness changes the questions you ask, and better questions lead to better decisions.

    This episode answers

    • Why does my workspace feel draining when nothing is wrong with it?
    • What does it mean to design for a nervous system?
    • How does being autistic change how someone reads a space?
    • Why do accessible and sensory aware spaces work better for everyone?

You fixed your sleep. You fixed your food.
You rebuilt your morning routine and worked on your mindset.

So why do you still hit two o'clock with nothing left?

There is one thing you have never audited, and you sit inside it eight hours a day.

I went to Bali to rest and came back unable to stop thinking about it. Not the beauty.

What those spaces understood about human beings. This is not five things to copy from Bali.

    Why can't I concentrate?
Why can't I stick to the routine?
    Why can't I switch off?

When something isn't working, we look at ourselves first. Every time.

It took me twenty years of working with spaces, and almost a year of making this podcast, to ask a much simpler question.

Where is all of this happening?

You don't focus in a vacuum. You focus somewhere.

And we have been treating that somewhere like scenery.

This episode is the story of how I finally found the words, and why the show has a new name.

  • You Were Called Too Much Your Whole Life. You Were Never the Problem.

    Send us Fan Mail

You pass. At work, at school, in every room you walk into.

No one knows what it costs you. You read the room before you enter it, you copy the faces, you rehearse the small talk in the car so it comes out right.

And then you close your own front door and have nothing left. Not for the people you love the most.

Somewhere along the way, you quietly decided the problem was you.

Here is what almost no one tells you. There is nothing wrong with you. There never was. A woman named Grunya Sukhareva saw you clearly in 1927, and then the world spent ninety three years looking away.

You were not too much. You were performing a safety your body never felt, for years, and no one ever gave you a home that let you stop. This is not a discipline problem. It is a masked nervous system, and your environment is where it finally comes down.

In this episode of Happy Healthy Homes, Nervous System Designer Etienny Trindade tells the buried history of how neurodivergence in women was missed for almost a century, why so many women are only discovering it now, and what masking is quietly doing to your nervous system, and then shows you how to build a home that finally lets the mask come down, without renovating, going minimalist, or trying harder.

In this episode you will learn

→ Who Grunya Sukhareva was, and why her 1927 paper on the girls was ignored for ninety three years
→ Why the world built its understanding of neurodivergence out of boys, and measured the girls against the wrong ruler
→ Why women are diagnosed on average five years later than men, and told it is anxiety or depression instead
→ What camouflaging is, and why it is the body performing a safety it does not feel
→ Why masking so often breaks open at adolescence, university and motherhood
→ Why home is meant to be the one place the mask comes off, and why most homes never got the memo

    Where the Mask Comes Down

Most women perform all day and then come home to a space that asks just as much of their body as the world outside. Where the Mask Comes Down flips it. You build a home that tells the nervous system it is finally safe to stop. In this episode, Etienny shares the first changes to make tonight: give yourself the first ten minutes home with nothing asked of you, make one room where no one is watching, take the overhead lights out of the evening, and clear what your eyes have to hold.

    This episode answers

→ Why was I only diagnosed as neurodivergent as an adult?
→ Why are autistic women and girls missed so often?
→ What is masking, or camouflaging, and why is it so exhausting?
→ Why do I feel like I have nothing left the moment I get home?
→ Why did this only surface for me at motherhood?
→ How do I make my home a place I can finally stop performing?

    Why this matters

The exhaustion, the sense of being too much, the certainty that something is wrong with you, are symptoms. A world that built its ruler out of boys and measured you against it is the cause. Masking for years holds the nervous system on high alert until it breaks, and then it is called burnout, anxiety, or being a bad mother. This episode is for the woman who was told her whole life she was too sensitive, and who is only now realising the problem was never her. Nothing is wrong with you. No one ever built a world that could hold you. So we build the home.

  • There Is No Typical Nervous System

    Send us Fan Mail

You have been told you are too much. Too sensitive. Too affected by everything.

So you tried to fix yourself. The mindset work. The routines. The discipline.

And you still end most days drained, foggy, with nothing left.

Here is what almost no one tells you. There is nothing wrong with you. There is no such thing as a typical nervous system, and every room you walk into was built for one that does not exist.

Your space has been quietly draining you all day. This is not a willpower problem. It is a nervous system problem, and your environment is the trigger.

In this episode of Happy Healthy Homes, Nervous System Designer Etienny Trindade explains why your environment (not your willpower) is the reason you feel depleted and "too much" by the end of the day, and what to do about it without renovating, going minimalist, or trying harder.

In this episode you will learn
→ Why there is no such thing as a typical nervous system, and how we built the whole world for one anyway
→ The Air Force discovery that proved not one person in four thousand is average
→ Why your nervous system keeps getting more sensitive, with sickness, pregnancy, ageing and stress
→ Why we are exhausted indoors, when our biology was built for daylight, movement and nature
→ What neuroception is, and how your body reads every room for safety before you think a single thought
→ Why you cannot do your best work in a space your body does not trust

    Design for Your Hardest Day
Most of us set up our spaces for the version of ourselves on a good day. Design for Your Hardest Day flips it. You build the room for the you that is sick, tired or overwhelmed, and when the space holds you at your most sensitive, it holds everyone who walks in. In this episode, Etienny shares the one question to ask about any room you are in, and the first changes to make tonight: soften the light, cut the visual noise where you rest, lower the sound, and build one corner that asks nothing of you.

    This episode answers
→ Is there really such a thing as a normal or typical nervous system?
→ Why do I feel foggy and exhausted even when I have done everything right?
→ Why was I always told I am too sensitive?
→ Why do I feel calmer in a hotel than in my own home or office?
→ What is neuroception, and how does my body decide if a room is safe?
→ Why can I not do my best work in certain spaces?
→ How do I make my home support my nervous system without renovating?

    Why this matters
The fog, the exhaustion, the feeling of being too much, are symptoms. A world built for a nervous system that does not exist is the cause. Harsh lighting, recycled air, visual noise and constant low grade decisions drain your nervous system before your real work or your real life even begins. This episode is for the person who has tried the mindset work, the routines and the discipline, and still ends most days wondering what is wrong with them. The answer is nothing. Nothing is wrong with you. The room was built for someone who is not real.

  • Why You Fall Apart at Home When You're Brilliant at Work

    Send us Fan Mail

You closed something at work today. Solved a problem no one else could see. And on the drive home, for one quiet moment, you felt like yourself.

Then you walked through the front door.

Nothing dramatic happened. Just that feeling. Everything is fine but nothing feels easy. Your brain, which was sharp and clear an hour ago, is now scattered across every surface in the room.

In this episode, Etienny explains exactly why this happens and why it has nothing to do with your personality, your discipline, or your capacity as a mother.

    You will learn:

    • Why your brain makes around 35,000 decisions every single day and what that costs your body by evening
    • What a 2025 University of Bath study found about mothers and household cognitive load (the number will stop you)
    • Why the women who "seem to manage better" are not more capable. They have more structure
    • A 10-minute system scan you can do tonight to see exactly where your home is spending your energy

Etienny also shares why she has been away for the past few weeks and what she has been quietly building for women like you.

If you have ever stood in your kitchen after a brilliant day and thought "I was running a meeting an hour ago, why does this feel impossible?" this episode was made for you.

Send it to a woman you love who needs to hear that it was never her.

  • Why You Can't Stop Snapping at Your Kids (It's Not a Patience Problem)

    Send us Fan Mail

You snapped at your kids again today. Over something small. And now you feel terrible.

You keep asking yourself: "Why can't I be more patient? What's wrong with me?"

Here is what most parents don't realise. It's not a patience problem. It's an environmental problem.

Your home has been depleting your emotional capacity all day long. By the time your kids ask you the same question for the fifth time, you have nothing left. This is not a willpower issue. It is a nervous system issue, and your home is the trigger.

In this episode of Happy Healthy Homes, environmental designer Etienny Trindade explains why your home (not your patience) is the reason you snap by 5pm, and what to do about it without renovating, going minimalist, or trying harder.

In this episode you will learn

→ Why your home is draining your nervous system before you even get to your kids → How modern homes are designed for stimulation, not regulation → How hotels preserve your emotional capacity (and why your house quietly steals it) → What a Calm Anchor is and how to create one in your home today → The difference between sensory load and clutter, and why both matter → Why this has nothing to do with willpower and everything to do with environmental design

    The Calm Anchor

A Calm Anchor is a single intentional space in your home that gives your nervous system a place to land. It is not a meditation corner. It is not a Pinterest aesthetic. It is operational infrastructure for your emotional capacity. In this episode, Etienny shares how to identify the right spot, what to remove from it, and the three signals that tell you it is working.

    This episode answers

→ Why do I keep snapping at my kids over small things? → Is my impatience with my children a willpower problem? → How does my home environment affect my parenting? → What is a Calm Anchor and how do I create one? → Why do I feel calmer in hotels than at home? → How can I stop feeling so overstimulated as a parent? → What is the connection between home design and the nervous system?

    Why this matters

Snapping at your kids is the symptom. An overstimulated home is the cause. Sensory load, visual noise, ambient clutter, harsh lighting, and constant low grade decisions deplete your nervous system before parenting even begins. This episode is for the parent who has tried gentle parenting, mindfulness, and patience apps, and still ends most days wondering what is wrong with them.

The answer is nothing. Nothing is wrong with you. Your home is doing this to you.

  • Why You Can't Let Go of the Clutter (It's Not a Tidying Problem), with Sharlene Lindt

    Send us Fan Mail

You've decluttered before. You've watched the Netflix special. You've bought the bins. And somehow the clutter always finds its way back.

Here is why. Clutter is not a tidying problem. It is a healing problem.

Sharlene Lindt once lived with 33 cubic meters of possessions across 16 rooms. She called herself "the queen of the hidden mess." Then she lost her baby boy in 2011, and her home became the physical reflection of everything she hadn't yet processed. Through grief, alcoholism recovery, and managing OCD and ADHD, she developed the SHiFT framework, a five step process for clearing clutter that has nothing to do with discipline and everything to do with reclaiming your power.

In this episode of Happy Healthy Homes, environmental designer Etienny Trindade speaks with Sharlene Lindt, business strategist, keynote speaker, and creator of the MindShift process, about the deep connection between clutter, grief, identity, and the nervous system.

In this episode you will learn

→ Why clutter is "the physical evidence of what we haven't processed" → How your home environment directly affects your nervous system and physical health → What "attention hooks" are and why every object in your home occupies brain space → The SHiFT process: See the big picture, Hone in on reality, Implement quick wins, Focus on patterns, Take imperfect action → The difference between hoarding and "collecting" and its links to neurodivergence (OCD, ADHD) → Why gratitude and self compassion are the foundations of lasting change → How to take imperfect action and start with just one tiny shelf

    The SHiFT Framework

Sharlene Lindt's SHiFT framework is a five step process for clearing clutter that bypasses the willpower trap most decluttering methods rely on.

    S. See the big picture before touching a single shelf H. Hone in on the reality of what's actually in your space I. Implement quick wins to build momentum F. Focus on the patterns underneath the mess T. Take imperfect action, every day, without performance

This is not Marie Kondo. This is clutter work for people who have tried Marie Kondo and still cannot move.

    Attention Hooks

Every object in your home is an attention hook, a piece of unfinished business your brain is quietly tracking. Sharlene and Etienny explain why clutter is more than visual mess. It is cognitive load. And it is the reason you sit down to rest and never actually relax.

    This episode answers

→ Why is decluttering so hard for me? → Why does my clutter feel heavier than other people's? → Is there a connection between clutter and grief? → How does ADHD or OCD affect decluttering? → What is the difference between hoarding and collecting? → How do I start decluttering when I am overwhelmed? → Why does my house feel cluttered even after I tidy it? → How does clutter affect my nervous system?

    Why this matters

You are not lazy. You are not weak. You are not bad at "adulting." If clutter has felt heavier than just stuff, you are right. It is. Clutter is the visible part of an invisible carry: grief, identity shifts, life transitions, the version of yourself you have not yet let go of. Whether you are dealing with a cluttered room, a cluttered mind, or a life that feels heavy, this episode will shift how you see your home and yourself.

    Pull quote

"You don't clear clutter to tidy your life. You clear clutter to reclaim your energy, your decisions, and your power." — Sharlene Lindt

    About the guest: Sharlene Lindt

Sharlene Lindt is a business strategist, keynote speaker, and the creator of the MindShift process and the SHiFT framework. After living with 33 cubic meters of possessions and surviving the loss of her son, she has spent over a decade helping people clear clutter as a path to reclaiming their energy, decisions, and power.
