Last week we saw that there is great evidence for a Creator of the universe. And as we move toward Easter Sunday, we travel now to the question of, “Who is Jesus?” This is an important question because both the New Testament and history claims that the tomb was empty that Easter Sunday morning. And not only are these claims made but as a follower of Christ our faith stands or falls on who He is and His resurrection from the dead. So today we will look at the claims of one of the many eyewitnesses of the Resurrection of Jesus as he gives us the answer to, “Who is Jesus?”

If the Resurrection of Jesus Christ happened it would require a miracle and for miracles to be possible it would require the existence of God. But isn’t that the debate that has been raging for centuries now? Is there a God? Or better put, did God create the universe and all we see or did this all create itself out of nothing? If it created itself out of nothing then there is no God and if there is no God then there are no miracles and if there are no miracles then a miraculous resurrection is out of the question. So today we will tackle the question of, “Is there evidence of a Creator?”

Our final message in the “Impact Events” series centers around the idea of “Returning.” Maybe you’ve noticed that all healthy growing relationships have the return aspect to them. Meaning, they keep returning to each other to spend time together. There is something about that friend or person you are dating or married to that drives you to want to keep returning to them to spend time with them. Our relationship with Jesus is no different. Today’s message asks the question; How often do I return to Christ? And what is the evidence of my regular returns? We will look at 10 men in the New Testament that were impacted by Jesus healing them, but only one returns to Jesus in Thanksgiving and Worship. Jesus asks, “Were there not ten? Where are the other nine?” It seems Jesus takes notice of the non-returners.

One of the more challenging things for us followers of Christ is believing the Word of God. Now let me explain the statement. It’s very easy to quote God’s word and tell others we believe God’s word but it’s not always easy to trust God’s word. It’s like this; do I trust God’s word in the challenging times of life? Do I trust God’s word when God’s word is being put to the test in my life? Today in our next impact event we will see one of the great men in Jewish history be faced with the challenge of “Will I trust it?” When the rubber meets the road, when life gets dicey, when I’ve stepped out on the limb to follow God, when God’s word is being tested in my life…will I trust God’s word?

It is very easy to say, “Jesus is number one in my life.” As followers of Christ we typically do not think we could possibly have any idols in our lives. I mean come on, I call Jesus “Lord” isn’t that enough evidence of His place in my heart? Well one day a man approaches Jesus asking, “What must I do to obtain eternal life?” When Jesus answers him the man pushes the question further and gets way more than he bargained for. Jesus turns on the light and puts the man’s heart on display to himself as to who or what is number one in his life. And to find out what he finds out about himself…well I guess you’ll have to tune in on Sunday. See you then.

It’s always easier to look at what others need to be honest about. But what about you or me? I think that one of the most difficult things we face is facing our self. Being honest with ourselves. And yet that is where growth and transformation begins. A woman initiates an impact event with Jesus by touching the hem of His robe in hopes that she will be physically healed. Jesus feels the touch and turns to look for who touched Him. And the woman tells him it was her. She comes clean and because she does she is healed. The truth is we typically look for physical healing when we should look for emotional healing that only begins by being honest about ourselves. She came clean and got both.

Life moves quickly and is filled with all kinds of events that have future impact. The future king of Israel named David is facing a moral decision that carries a future impact. The question is, will he take the easy route and kill King Saul or will he take the long road, God’s road to the throne. It’s the question of what story will he tell his children and grandchildren about that day? He chooses the right road and doesn’t assassinate King Saul which allows him to one day tell a good story. When it comes to moral dilemmas and decisions what story will you and I tell to those we love?

Most of us can’t remember what happened 20 days ago. But isn’t it interesting that we can remember some things that happened 10 or 20 years ago. Why is that? Well the reason for this is some days can have an event that impacts us for life. We don’t forget it because it reshapes our thinking or the direction of our lives. This can also lead to a more positive impact and influence on others. So for the next six weeks we will be looking at specific Impact Events in the lives of men and women in the Bible and how it reshaped their future and apply their impact event to our lives.

Jesus had a big heart for hurting people and the world is made of of many hurting souls. In Mark 6 we see what kept Jesus aware of the pain in people’s lives: He saw. Which means He looked at people’s plight. It’s easy to look away, it’s more difficult to do what Jesus did. He saw and because He saw it says He felt compassion. This is a simple key to having a heart for hurting people: Look at them and feel for them. But that’s not enough.
