We live in a world that either minimizes sin or is crushed by guilt.

Some convince themselves that their failures are insignificant; others carry shame they

cannot seem to escape. Leviticus 16 confronts both responses by revealing the holiness

of God, the seriousness of our sin, and God's gracious provision through the Day of

Atonement. In this remarkable chapter, we see the tale of two goats proclaiming one

glorious gospel: one dies in the place of the guilty, while the other carries their sins far

away. Together they point us to Jesus Christ, whose once-for-all sacrifice satisfies God's

justice, removes our guilt, and restores us to fellowship with God. Here we discover that

our deepest need is not simply a fresh start but true atonement and true cleansing, and

our greatest hope is found in the God who has provided it.

Leviticus 11 closes with a surprising command: God's people must

even be careful about what they eat. Why? Because they belong to a God who is holy.

The food laws were never merely about diet; they were daily reminders that Israel was

distinct from the nations because the Lord himself was distinct from all other gods. Every

meal became an opportunity to remember who God is and who his people were called to

be.

With the coming of Christ, these food laws are no longer binding on God's people. Jesus

has fulfilled the purpose they served, breaking down the barrier between Jew and

Gentile and creating one new people for God. Yet the call to holiness has not

disappeared. As God's chosen people, we are still called to live lives that are visibly

different from the world around us. This passage invites us to see the food laws not as

regulations to obey, but as signs pointing to the purity, perfection, and completeness of

God. As we behold the Holy One who has cleansed us through Christ, we are moved to

worship him, delight in him, and imitate him through everyday habits of distinctiveness

and embodied holiness.

Leviticus 10:1–3 reminds us that true worship must be offered according

to God's commands, not human preferences. Nadab and Abihu approached God on their own

terms and were consumed under God’s judgment. Left to ourselves, we too are prone to draw

near to God in our own terms and cannot endure His holy presence. Yet this sobering passage

ultimately leads us to Jesus Christ, who alone brings sinners safely into God's holy presence by

taking upon Himself the judgment we deserve for our irreverent worship.

The Peace offering was the most joyful of Israel’

Sacrifices. At the heart of this offering is a surprising picture of grace: forgiven sinners

sharing a meal in the presence of a holy God. This sacrifice celebrated restored

fellowship, joyful thanksgiving, and communal worship. Yet it also pointed forward to

Jesus Christ, the true Peacemaker, who brings us near through His sacrifice. In this

passage, we will see that the goal of redemption is not simply forgiveness, but

communion - that through Christ, God welcomes His people to His table and invites them

to enjoy His presence together.

How can a holy God dwell among a sinful people? The opening chapter of Leviticus answers this foundational question through the burnt offering. God graciously provides a way for sinners to approach Him, not on the basis of their own righteousness, but through the sacrifice of an unblemished substitute. As the worshiper lays his hand upon the offering, we see the principles of substitution, atonement, and acceptance before God. Ultimately, this sacrifice points beyond itself to the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the spotless Lamb who offered Himself completely to God on behalf of His people. This passage calls us to marvel at God's holiness, rejoice in His provision for sinners, and respond with wholehearted devotion to the One who draws near through sacrifice.

Bangalore is one of the 30 odd megacities of the world. It's known

for the many good things and opportunities it offers to its residents–from a startup

ecosystem, to cultural diversity, to an appealing job market, to being an

educational hub, to offering a wide range of entertainment and recreation

avenues, and so on. Living in this thriving ecosystem can either threaten us to

withdraw from the city, or it can make us mere consumers of it. But the Bible gives

us a third way to respond to the city, by giving us the cultural mandate to grow

and to nurture the city through a humble reliance on God's power and provision,

and to serve in the city through sacrificial service as Christ would. This will then

reflect the glory of God, which points people to the greater glory to come–the city

where creation is fully restored to dwell with God.

In a world where people fail us and circumstances frustrate us,

Psalm 118 offers us a God whose character is truly trustworthy. In this psalm we learn why

we can safely entrust ourselves to the Lord as our refuge and join the chorus of the

redeemed in singing, “Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord.” His love

is eternal, his help is experienced, and his salvation is exalted.

In Psalms 116–117, we hear the testimony of someone rescued from

distress, anguish, and the shadow of death. The Psalmist remembers the God who hears

cries for mercy, preserves the weak, and restores weary souls to rest. Yet this personal

song of gratitude does not remain private—it becomes public praise among the gathered

people of God and, finally, expands into a global invitation for all nations to worship the

LORD, whose steadfast love and faithfulness endure forever. In light of Christ, who likely

sang these very Psalms before Gethsemane and whose resurrection life is now poured

out through the Spirit at Pentecost (today is Pentecost Sunday), these Psalms call us to

move from desperation to confidence, from testimony to thanksgiving, and from personal

worship to a vision for the nations. After all, we have the resurrection life of Jesus

dwelling in our mortal bodies, through the Spirit of God who now indwells us.

We are all glory hunters. In the city, we look to achievement,

approval, comfort, relationships, money, control, and influence to give us identity and

security. But Psalm 114–115 shows us a God who lovingly disrupts the realities we build

around these false saviours. The idols we trust cannot speak, save, satisfy, or sustain us.

Yet the living God, the One before whom creation trembles, acts to reorder our lives

around his glory. His disruptions are not meant to destroy us, but to free us from lesser

glories and draw us back to worship, trust, and delight in Him alone.

In a bustling city of millions of people, it is easy to feel overlooked

and unseen with one's needs. Many feel that way about God too. But Psalm 113

wonderfully calls us to praise our Triune God precisely because he sees his people,

knows their needs and is able and willing to help them.
