  • 2/26/23 - 1 John 2:18-27 - Addressing the Antichrist - David Rountree
Sermon by Dr. David Rountree on February 26, 2023 at New Covenant Church in Anderson, SC.
    Scripture Passage: 1 John 2:18-27
    Outline:
The term antichrist is only in the Bible four times (1John 2:18; 22; 4:3; 2John7).
    Notice four things:
    1. Antichrist is a multitude not one individual (1John2:18,19; 2John7).
    2. Antichrist is a belief system denying the gospel—saving work of Jesus (1John2:22).
    3. Antichrist is not political but religious in nature (1John2:19; 2John2:7).
    4. Antichrist can be in our past, present and future (1John2:18; 4:3).
    STAY AWARE OF ANTICHRIST
    1. Aware of those bent on departure (v.19).
    2. Aware of those bent on denial (v.22, 23)
    3. Aware of those bent on deception (v.26)
    STAND AGAINST ANTICHRIST
    1. Stand through abiding (v.24, 25)
    2. Stand with our anointing (v.20, 21, 27)

    Sermon Passage: Exodus 20:17
    Sermon Outline:
    WHAT COVETOUSNESS IS
    WHEN COVETOUSNESS OCCURS
    1. When our meditation is world over Word (Ps.1:1-3).
    2. When we "do the town" instead of "do the truth" (1John 2:15-17).
    3. When we are busy with matters instead of ministry (Luke10:40-42).
    4. When working for goods while only wishing for God (Matt.19:21-22; Luke12:13-21).
    WAYS COVETOUSNESS CAN BE CURED
    1. Trusting God’s Provisions
    2. Redirecting our desires to the things of God.
    3. Realize the wealth we already have in the love of God.
    4. Work at learning contentment.
