No Good Argument for Avoiding the Sabbath

Two arguments for Abrogating the Sabbath

1. Abrogation through a cessation of commands - Rom. 6:2, 15 & 1 John 5:3

2. Abrogation through cessation of ceremonies.

5 Reason not to abrogate the Sabbath as ceremonial

1. Sabbath is a creation ordinance (Gen.2:1-3).

2. Sabbath was expressly taught prior to TC (Exod. 16:4, 5, 22-30).

3. Sabbath was the distinguishing mark of a Genesis pattern (Gen. 2:1-3; 8:10; 29:27; 50:10).

4. Violation was a capital offense (Exod. 31:14).

5. The Ten Commandments are treated as a moral unit that completely moves into the New Testament (Jer. 31:33; Eph. 6:2-3; 1Tim.1:8-11).

Five Arguments for Accepting the Sabbath

1. The rationale is decisive (Gen.2:2,3).

2. The remembrance is demanded (Exod. 20:8).

3. The ruler is deity (Mark 2:27,28).

4. The reality is demonstrated (Matt.24:20).

5. The regularity is described (Isa. 56:1-7; 66:1, 2, 22, 23).

Two Primary Reasons for Keeping the Sabbath Command

1. Redemption Remembrance (Deut. 5:15).

2. Creation Celebration (Exod. 20:11; Heb. 4:1-10).
