Repentance is the fourth week of this series. Repentance is a changing of the mind. As Jonah’s message reaches the King of Nineveh, his repentance results in a city-wide revival. When we understand our sin, our sorrow leads to change. That change can be contagious and inspire others to repent as well.

Realization is the third week of this series. As Jonah now sits in the belly of a fish, he has come to the realization that he is helpless. In Jonah’s distress he cries out to God. It is when this reluctant Missionary remembers His God, that Jonah sees the Lord speak. There is no mistake of what God is telling Jonah.

Reaction is the second week of this series. Jonah boarded a ship full of pagan sailors who knew nothing of the one true God. Instead of sharing with them, Jonah isolated himself from them. God’s storm leads to a confrontation that reveals the true God and His grace...and leaves Jonah in the belly of a fish.

Rebellion is the first week of this series. The Book of Jonah opens with a description of Jonah’s rebellion. He refuses to follow God’s direction and becomes the only prophet that we know of to literally run away from God. Our rebellion leads our God to pursue us with his depths of grace.

XVI:XXI-XXVII is the thirty-seventh week of this series. The end of the great theological work that we know as the book of Romans is praise. Doxology is the culmination of theology. As we end Romans and look back upon all the deep theology in the book, it leaves us in awe of our sovereign and gracious God.

XVI:I-XX is the thirty-sixth week of this series. All of us have a story. And it’s important to God. But the people of God do well to realize that our stories are really just the makeup of one big story: God’s glory in redemption.

XV:XXII-XXXIII is the thirty-fifth week of this series. God’s mission needs to be at the forefront of our lives. Living as gospel centered saints, we leverage everything we can for God’s glory. Paul writes of his desire to visit Rome and eventually Spain for the sake of the gospel. His passion to see the gospel reach the ends of the earth should be our desire also.

XV:VIII-XXI is the thirty-fourth week of this series. As Paul nears the end of his letter to the Romans he tells the explicit reason for his ministry: his calling to reach the Gentiles. Paul is rightfully proud of all that the Lord has accomplished through him and in this passage, we see healthy principles for our own ministry two thousand years later.

XV:I-VII is the thirty-third week of this series. Encouragement is delivered to us from God in many different forms. It is truly encouraging to be a Christian! When we are encouraged by God we are, in turn, equipped to be a conduit of encouragement to others.

XIV:XIII-XXIII is the thirty-second week of this series. Christian liberties necessitate wisdom. If we’re not wise with our liberties, we’re sinful with our liberties. Our goal should always be encouragement within the church and glory to God.
