What do we do when life feels unfair, painful, or overwhelming? In the stories of Hagar and Ishmael, we encounter a God who sees suffering, hears cries of distress, and responds with compassion. Lament is more than sorrow—it is honest faith that refuses to stay silent in the face of pain. Join us as we explore how bringing our grief, questions, and heartbreak to God can become a pathway to healing, justice, and faithful action. Because the good news is this: God sees. God hears. God acts.

Jesus looked at the crowds with compassion and said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” The need is great — not only in the world around us, but within the life of the church itself. In Matthew 9–10, Jesus calls ordinary people to step forward, serve boldly, and join in God’s work of healing, welcome, and hope. This week, we’ll reflect on what it means to move from being spectators to participants in the mission of Christ. Where might God be calling you to lead, serve, encourage, teach, build, welcome, or care for others? The harvest is still plentiful — and Christ is still calling workers.

In Matthew 9:18–26, two very different people come to Jesus with the same desperate hope: a religious leader grieving his daughter and a woman long isolated by illness and exclusion. One is respected and powerful; the other overlooked and marginalized. Yet Jesus responds to both with compassion, healing, and new life. This week, we explore how Christ crosses boundaries, restores dignity, and reminds us that no one is beyond the reach of God’s love. Guest Preacher: Rev. Harlan VanOort

“New Courage: Take Up Your Cross, Follow Me” Matthew 16:21–27
Jesus calls his followers to a courageous way of life — not driven by fear, comfort, or self-preservation, but by love. In a world afraid of loss, Jesus invites us to take up the cross and follow him. Yet this is not a call to despair; it is a resurrection-shaped invitation empowered by the Holy Spirit. Because Christ is risen, we can live with boldness, sacrificial love, and hope. Join us as we explore what it means to practice courageous love and discern one bold step Jesus may be calling us to take.

This Pentecost, celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and the new power Christ gives his people. In Acts 2, ordinary disciples are transformed into bold witnesses, sent to share the good news in courageous and life-giving ways. The same Spirit still calls and equips us today — to listen, to step out in faith, and to go where Jesus is leading us spiritually, relationally, and even beyond our comfort zones. Join us as we explore how the Spirit sends us to embody resurrection life and help others discover the hope of Christ.

This Sunday, Pastor Caressa invites us to see with “New Eyes: Seeing as Easter People.” In the wake of resurrection, we are given a new way of seeing — shaped not by fear or scarcity, but by blessing. Through the Beatitudes in Matthew 5:1-12, we discover that Jesus isn’t describing ideals to strive for, but the kind of community Easter creates. Come explore a different way of living, seeing, and relating as people of the resurrection.

Pastor Jordan’s final Sunday with us will be a meaningful and grace-filled moment in the life of our church. As he preaches from Philippians 1:3–11, he offers his message as a personal letter to New Hope — echoing the Apostle Paul’s words of gratitude, joy, and deep affection for a beloved community. Together, we will give thanks for the ways Pastor Jordan has shared in the gospel with us over the past eleven years through faithful leadership, compassionate care, and a steady witness to God’s love. This will be a time to celebrate our shared ministry, to honor the relationships that have been formed, and to bless him as he steps into a new chapter of his calling. With full hearts, we gather in gratitude for all that has been and with hope for all that is still to come for New Hope.
