October 27, 2017Never CallI've been really interested in playing around with instrumentation lately - trying new combinations and working with instruments not commonly found in pop music. While the solo trumpet has been heard from time to time, I wanted to feature it with this track. I also wanted to have soulful vocals over top to present the yearning that is embedded in the lyrics. October 20, 2017MoonlightI had a great time collaborating with Julia Pierce on this track. My goal with the music/lyrics was to create something that felt innocent and conjured feelings of wanting to get out of town with someone for the night. Julia captured it perfectly with the vocal performance. Visit https://palasound.studio/ for more info or to join the conversation. Enjoy!...more4minPlay
October 13, 2017Love Me BadAs I've been writing more and more with Ableton Live and Push, I've started to explore new avenues and ideas for less electronic production and more authentic instrumentation. "Love Me Bad" is a track that is meant to be very raw and open in terms of the production. The wah guitar hook and the roomy drums fill up the chorus, while a solo vocal and clean guitar track are featured in the verses. October 06, 2017ClosureThis song is a collaboration with Jonni Scott and we both had a great time working on it. Jonni brought a fresh track and great ear to the project, and I focused on the topline and lyrics. We kicked it back and forth until it was perfect, and I am very proud of how it turned out! September 29, 2017IntertwineWith this song, I wanted to focus on the lyrics and the story of the song. I chose to use strong imagery to portray the deep emotional message of the song. I also wanted to keep the production simple and easy to listen to in order to draw more attention to the lyrics and their meaning. September 22, 2017Work It OutI had written the main hook for this song a while back but didn't know exactly what to do with it until I started creating this beat. Once I had the beat down, I started playing with the melody and found that it worked really well over it, and the rest of the track came pretty quickly after that. I really like the bridge of this song because it has a non-traditional feel to it, which I think makes it catchy and unique. Visit https://palasound.studio/ for more info or to join the conversation. September 15, 2017SmileThis song is all about a laid back, R&B vibe with a cute poem-like lyric that conjures up the feeling of falling in love. I first wrote this song as a "singer-songwriter" style (with acoustic guitar, etc.), but decided to take it in a bit more modern direction with the synths, drums, and keys. I wanted it to still have a classy feel, so I used organic sounds as well as electronic sounds. Visit https://palasound.studio/ for more info or to join the conversation. Enjoy!...more4minPlay
September 08, 2017Not Over YouWith a hip-hop rhythm and hard hitting 808 samples, this track is all about the feeling and the groove. I wanted to create something a little less mainstream, so I decided to create a dichotomy with the verses and choruses - the verses are super punchy and stark, and the chorus is gooey and lush. Lyrically, I starting singing what the beat sounded like and this is what came out! Visit https://palasound.studio/ for more info or to join the conversation. Enjoy!...more4minPlay
September 01, 2017ButterfliesThis track started off with a very different feel, it actually started as a piano ballad. After playing around with the hook idea, I decided to trying singing this melody over it and it worked really well. I decided to create a very innocent love story with it, keeping the lyrics to “I like you” and “do you feel like a teenager” to give it it’s sense of innocence. The instrumentation is up beat and electronic, also giving off the “young love” vibe. Visit https://palasound.studio/ for more info or to join the conversation. Enjoy!...more4minPlay
August 25, 2017FallingI wanted to create something that used a blend of acoustic and electric guitars and had a very authentic feel to it. The acoustic guitar keeps the rhythm while the electric guitar fills in a lot of the body, which gives it a nice round sound overall. In terms of the lyrics, I wanted to create a blissful scene that is very romantic but also very poetic. Visit https://palasound.studio/ for more info or to join the conversation.
