In Matt. 24, Jesus reminded His disciples what He was calling them to be ready for. Now, in ch.25, Jesus tells them how they can be ready: how did they know if they were enduring in His love for others no matter what? We grow in God’s kingdom by knowing God, serving out of His sacrifice, & tending to the least of these.

In one of Jesus’ final teachings with His disciples, He gives them a last reminder of what He is preparing them for as workers in His kingdom. This will then form their ministry. Today He focuses on what they’re to be ready for: Jesus calls us to prepare to live like Him by enduring in His love for others no matter what.

As we’ve been seeing God’s kingdom is centered on His humility & power, we’re also seeing how self-righteousness worms its way into our faith. Jesus will teach us today how self-righteousness centers our faith on our experiences, pursuits, works, & ourselves; Christ’s righteousness gathers us into life with God.

The power of Jesus’ kingdom starts to rub some of the earthly authorities the wrong way: the Pharisees, Herodians, & Sadducees all struggle to understand what Jesus’ kingdom is all about. Jesus shows us today how His kingdom focuses us on who we are, who God is, and who we were made to be.

As Jesus & His disciples enter Jerusalem, we see a glimpse of a king entering His kingdom. After teaching about His humility, Jesus shows how it directs His kingly power. Today, we’ll learn how Jesus’ power yokes us to God’s nature, restores us to God’s design, constrains us to God’s presence, & changes our hearts.

Entering His final moments with the disciples before Jerusalem, Jesus continues to show them what humility looks like. We’ll see how without humility, we pursue division over reconciliation; make people our problem, not pursuit; center the story on us, not God; & take control for instead of surrendering control to Jesus.

Diving back into Matthew, Jesus unpacks 2 images to show what following Him looks like: what it means to be a child of God, & what humility look like. We’ll see God’s children are humble: surrendering control to Christ, removing ourselves to glorify God, and pursuing the lost & reconciliation with others for eternity.
