  • Episode – 61 PPC Shooting

    www.cpca-ppc.org
I have never shot any CPCA sanctioned matches myself. Just the CSSA matches, which are include-
    *600 match, 60 rounds
    *1200 match, 120 “
    *1500 match, 150 “
    *Service Pistol match
A 1200 match is just two consecutive 600. These seem to be the most popular club level matches.
    The “600” Course of Fire.
We are competing against 6 shooters, so all semi auto are only loaded to six rounds in each magazine
    Stage 1: B27R Targe
7 Yards – Double Action – 12 Shots standing without support.  Twelve Seconds, time starts with loaded gun in holster and includes reloading for the second 6 shot string.
    Stage 2:
50 Feet – Double Action – 6 Shots kneeling; 6 shots standing, 6 left handed with support, 6 shots standing right hand with support.  Ninety Seconds, time starts with loaded gun in holster and includes reloading.
Both stages are fired on one B27R Target*
    Stage 3: ( Target change)B27R Targe
50 feet – Double Action – 6 Shots standing without support position.  Twelve Seconds, time starts with loaded gun in holster no barricade or other support is used.
    Stage 4:
50 Feet – Single or Double Action – 6 Shots sitting; 6 Shots Prone; 6 shots standing, left hand with support, 6 shots standing right hand with support.  Two Minutes and 45  Seconds, time starts with loaded gun in holster and includes reloading.  Fired on B27R Target
A little trick- use a digital watch with a timmer. Have the face of the watch facing you, so you can see your remaining time. You have lots of time, so make your shots count…..no need for speed on the last three stages.
    Equipment required-
Buy a small carpet or a shooting matt. You
    are going to need it!
*A holster (no shoulder or cross draw holsters) is required
Guns-NRA rules allow .32 caliber or larger in a revolver with a maximum 6″ barrel length and .35 caliber or larger in a auto pistol with a 5″ maximum barrel length. Many shooters use a six shot revolver firing .38spl while others use 9mm, .40, or .45 caliber semi-autos. There are also some restrictions on hooded front sights and the types of barrel ribs, so again, the refer to the rules to make sure your gun complies.
Ammo- there is no power factors in PPC, but the projectile must pass through the target backer.  Ammo can be factory loaded or hand loaded, but must not be Magnum or High Speed ammo.

Tips To Make Your Home More Secure

Assuming that you already have an alarm system, here are several additional low cost methods to make your home more secure from outside invasion and break ins.

    Windows

    1. Place alarm sticker decals and/or beware of dog decals on windows where they will be easily visible.

    2. Use timers to turn on/off lights and a radio at various times to give the house a lived in look even when you are not there.

    3. Make an additional lock for the windows to prevent someone from lifting the window from outside.

    4. Close the curtains and lock the windows when you go out. There is no reason to let someone see into your house – especially if they can see valuables.

    5. If you have a window air conditioner, securely fasten it to the window so it cannot be easily removed.

    6. Apply a Glass Security film to your windows. This will stop a window from shattering and slow down a forced entry.

    Doors

    1. Make sure that you are using a solid wood or metal door for all exterior doors – and make sure they fit snugly in their frames. A steel frame is event better

    2. Mount dead bolts securely to the door frames and secure tumblers with plates.

    3. Use long screws in the plates to make it harder for a door to be kicked in.

    4. Consider a security bar to be used when you are home.

    5. Install doorknob alarms. These little alarms sound off very loudly when they are moved.

    6. If you have an outside door with glass, consider replacing it with safety glass or metal grillwork.

    7. Install a wide angle peephole and chain lock.

    8. Do not leave notes on the front door to say you are not home.

    9. Don’t install a pet door – or if you need one consider an auto opening pet door triggered by  your pet’s collar. For a big enough pet, the pet door is an open invitation into your home.

    Shrubs and Trees

    1. Don’t grow trees where they obscure the view of windows from the road or a neighbours house. If you have large trees, be sure no load bearing branches are close to second story windows.

    2. Consider installing prickly shrubs under windows to make it a very uncomfortable place for a would be thief to ply his illicit trade.

    3. Install a metal grate on all basement windows – or install a steel bar halfway down the window so the gap is not large enough for someone to climb in.

    Drainpipes

    1. Plastic drainpipes are less likely to support the weight of a thief than metal ones.

    2. Cover your drain pipes with anti climb paint or grease starting at about 8 feet above the ground.

    Sliding Glass Doors

    1. Use vertical lock bolts and shatterproof glass on your sliding glass doors.

    2. Insert a properly cut piece of wood on the bottom track to prevent the door from sliding.

    3. Drill holes and insert screws along the doorframe so the doors can’t be lifted out of their tracks.

    Porch

4.Keep the porch lit at night.

    Garage

    1. Have a switch inside your house that lets  you turn on and off your garage lights.

    2. Install a motion sensor light outside your garage door (and at other strategic locations around your house.)

    3. If you have a door from the garage into the house, this must be properly  secured Door**explain*

    4. If you have a quick release rope on your garage door opener,
