  • Graves To Gardens - This Changes Everything

But the Jewish leaders demanded, “What are you doing? If God gave you authority to do this, show us a miraculous sign to prove it.”

19 “All right,” Jesus replied. “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

20 “What!” they exclaimed. “It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple, and you can rebuild it in three days?” 21 But when Jesus said “this temple,” he meant his own body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered he had said this, and they believed both the Scriptures and what Jesus had said.

    JOHN 2:18-22

    Message Title: THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING.

"EVERYTHING CHANGED WHEN I EXPERIENCED THE PROOF”

19 “All right,” Jesus replied. “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

But when Jesus said “this temple,” he meant his own body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered he had said this, and they believed both the Scriptures and what Jesus had said.

What is the thing that changed everything for the disciples? THE RESURRECTION.

The Resurrection of Jesus changes everything.

“Apart from the resurrection of Jesus Christ, there is no savior, no salvation, no forgiveness of sin, and no hope of resurrected eternal life. Apart from the resurrection, Jesus is reduced to yet another good but dead man and therefore is of no considerable help to us in this life or at its end. Plainly stated, without the resurrection of Jesus, the few billion people today who worship Jesus as God are gullible; their hope for a resurrection life after this is the hope of silly fools who trust in a dead man to give them life. Subsequently, the doctrine of Jesus’ resurrection is, without question, profoundly significant and worthy of the most careful consideration and examination.” - DOCTRINE.

But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.

    1 CORINTHIANS 15:12-14

    THE RESURRECTION IS YOUR RECEIPT

He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.

    PSALM 103:12

    THE RESURRECTION IS YOUR I.D.

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

    2 CORINTHIANS 5:17

    THE RESURRECTION IS YOUR DEGREE

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

  • Graves To Gardens - Welcome To The Table

When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. 15 And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”

17 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. 18 For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.[a] 21 But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table. 22 The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed. But woe to that man who betrays him!” 23 They began to question among themselves which of them it might be who would do this.

    LUKE 22:14-23

Message Title: WELCOME TO THE TABLE

“WHEN I DON’T UNDERSTAND THE COST OF THE MEAL, I MINIMIZE THE POWER OF THE MEAL.”

    6

We all, like sheep, have gone astray,

        each of us has turned to our own way;

and the Lord has laid on him

        the iniquity of us all.

    ISAIAH 53:6

“SIN IS ALWAYS INJUSTICE AGAINST SOMEONE. AND BECAUSE OF IT, JUSTICE HAS TO BE PAID.”

    5

But he was pierced for our transgressions,

        he was crushed for our iniquities;

the punishment that brought us peace was on him,

and by his wounds we are healed.

    ISAIAH 53:5

“COMMUNION IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE MEAL YOU COULD EVER EAT.”

“COMMUNION IS SEAT AT THE TABLE WITH JESUS.”

As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them.

30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

  • In My Feelings - SHAME

“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ 20 So he got up and went to his father.

    Luke 15:17-20

A painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior.

SHAME is a painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by sin

Shame is the feeling the follows SIN

    Sin we commit

    Sin committed against us.

SHAME IS AN OVERWHELMING FEAR OF ABANDONMENT.

SHAME IS AN OVERWHELMING FEAR OF REJECTION.

SHAME IS AN OVERWHELMING BELIEF THAT I AM BROKEN.

“Shame says, ‘what happened determines who you are’.”

In other words, your action determine your identity…

    SHAME HIDES ME FROM YOU

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees in the garden.

    Genesis 3:8

“Shame only allows for surface level relationships”

SHAME LIES TO ME ABOUT ME

I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ 20 So he got up and went to his father.

    Luke 15:17-20

    Luke 22:54-62

So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of [b]Jonah, do you love Me more than these?”

He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.”

He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”

16 He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?”

He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.”

He said to him, “Tend My sheep.”

17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?”

And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.”

Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep. - John 21:15-17

  • In My Feelings - DOUBT

    EVERYONE IS EMOTIONAL

    EMOTIONS ARE GOOD…

EMOTIONS ARE GOOD… WHEN THEY ARE SUBMITTED.

When Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their cities.

2 Now when John heard in prison about the deeds of the Christ, he sent word by his disciples 3 and said to him, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?” 4 And Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John what you hear and see: 5 the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers[a] are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them. 6 And blessed is the one who is not offended by me.”

    MATTHEW 11:1-6

Doubt: to be uncertain about; consider questionable or unlikely; hesitate to believe.

    I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE.

“Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?”

And someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a spirit that makes him mute. 18 And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.” 19 And he answered them, “O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me.” 20 And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. 21 And Jesus asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22 And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” 23 And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out[d] and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”

    MARK 9:17-24

Then Jesus *came with them to a place called [a]Gethsemane, and *told His disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 And He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with Him, and began to be grieved and distressed. 38 Then He *said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.”

    39 And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me;

    MATTHEW 26:36-41

THE PRESENCE OF DOUBT IS NOT THE ABSENCE OF FAITH.

    WHAT DO WE DO?

    1. CHOOSE TO BELIEVE BEFORE FEELING LIKE BELIEVING

    1. SEEK GOD.

  • In My Feelings - ANGER
    • Everyone is emotional

    • Emotions are good

    • Emotions are good… when they are submitted

    • Emotions are bad when:

    • We live in them

    • We live apart from them

So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. 26 Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny. - Matthew 5:21-26

Anger is an emotion characterized by antagonism toward someone or something you feel has deliberately done you wrong.

    ANGER CAN BE EXPRESSED.

Jesus fully realized all that was going to happen to him, so he stepped forward to meet them. “Who are you looking for?” he asked.

5 “Jesus the Nazarene,”[a] they replied.

“I am he,”[b] Jesus said. (Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them.) 6 As Jesus said “I am he,” they all drew back and fell to the ground! 7 Once more he asked them, “Who are you looking for?”

And again they replied, “Jesus the Nazarene.”

8 “I told you that I am he,” Jesus said. “And since I am the one you want, let these others go.” 9 He did this to fulfill his own statement: “I did not lose a single one of those you have given me.”

10 Then Simon Peter drew a sword and slashed off the right ear of Malchus, the high priest’s slave. 11 But Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword back into its sheath. Shall I not drink from the cup of suffering the Father has given me?”

    JOHN 18:4-11

    ANGER CAN BE SUPPRESSED.

And whether you choose to express or suppress, anger always leads to something…

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, - Ephesians 4:26

    ANGER CAN LEAD TO SIN

    ANGER CAN LEAD TO JUSTICE

So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. 26 Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny. - Matthew 5:21-26

When Jesus returned to Capernaum several days later, the news spread quickly that he was back home. 2 Soon the house where he was staying was so packed with visitors that there was no more room, even outside the door. While he was preaching God’s word to them, 3 four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. 4 They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. 5 Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.”

    MARK 2:1-5 (NLT)

“A RIGHT relationship is a relationship God would want to be apart of. A relationship done God’s way.”

    1. Right relationships are not focused on immediate options but on the end goal.
    2. Right Relationships are willing to put in time and effort
    3. Right Relationships don’t just focus on my needs but others needs.

There are “friends” who destroy each other,

but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.

    PROVERBS 18:24

There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

    JOHN 15:13

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’[e] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[f]

    MATTHEW 22:37-39

RIGHT RELATIONSHIPS (aka: relationships done God’s way) focus on the end goal, put in time and effort, focus on others needs
