On her wedding day, Varry Kebirungi looked forward to the bliss of happily ever after with her husband.

However, hardly a few days after their honeymoon, she faced the reality of lonely cold nights as her husband stayed awake overnight guarding their crops against raids by elephants.

But 37 years since her marriage, there is respite for Kebirungi and other villagers, thanks to an electric fence.
