Live from Japan, Ginger Griggs presented the critical challenge of maintaining adequate transportation services due to the convergence of the aging and declining population, along with depopulation in rural areas (which can leave residents stuck in a “ transportation desert”). With about 1/3 of our population in Japan 65+ years old, and a huge percent of them living alone, the ability to get out to reach necessary services, or to have them come to you, is of huge concern.
Ellen Khalifa share the IMF report that found a 70-year-old in 2022 has the cognitive ability of a 53-year-old in 2000 and the physical abilities of a 56-year-old in 2000, indicating that healthy aging is contributing to increased labor force participation and higher earnings for older individuals.
