Photographer David Hurn giving to talk on Aberfan in Cardiff.
2016 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Aberfan disaster in 1966 which saw 116 children and 28 adults killed in the small Welsh valley's mining village.
In his first public talk focussing on the disaster, titled Before and After. Aberfan: Thoughts on Privacy, Magnum photographer David Hurn reflected on his career of documenting small and large events and the role of photographers and photojournalism.

We grabbed the opportunity a few weeks back to get some fresh air and speak with Al Brydon and Rob Hudson - two of the founding members of the new Landscape photography Collective Inside the Outside. With member photographers from across the UK, ITO are just getting started. So it seemed to be the perfect time to talk with Rob and Al about the formation of the group, the Collective approach to contemporary Landscape, their plan (spoiler-alert: there isn't one!) and activities they're planning this side of Christmas in 2016.
We look forward to seeing some great work emerging from this new and enthusiastic Collective in coming months.

The Cardiff-based developers are demonstrating what a talented team with a simple idea can do to make quality photography printing easily available to enthusiasts and professionals. The quality of the prints and paper stocks they've secured in partnering with reputable professional labs around the world speaks for itself (we know first-hand as they worked with us to provide several high quality prints for our first exhibition last October).
The company is now growing rapidly: expanding their team, hiring an ex-Kodak executive recently and striking deals with partners and customers internationally - including securing Legoland Windsor as a corporate customer recently here in the UK.
Ffoton's Brian Carroll met up with Steve Martin, one of the development team in Cardiff to discuss their easy to use online Pwint.ly service that allows anyone to upload images and start selling their work immediately.
To kick the tyres and try the pwint.ly service for yourself, go to www.pwint.ly
Or if you'd like to explore integrating the full-blown Pwinty API on your own website, go to www.pwinty.com

Mark Hooper, founder of Indycube

We're big fans of Indycube and we think the location of these co-working spaces offer real potential for freelance photographers working in and around Wales to access great affordable desk space, fast WiFi, great coffee and make new contacts.

Born in the small town of Rhuddlan in North Wales, Philip Jones Griffiths' harrowing images of the Vietnam War had a profound effect on both American and International audiences to such an extent that the photojournalist’s work is credited with pressuring the USA to pull out of the conflict.
Ffoton discusses pre-production required in bringing the television documentary to fruition, the photographer's family and Magnum Photos being involved, the his two books published of the Vietnam work (Vietnam Inc. and Agent Orange: Collateral Damage in Vietnam) and location shooting in Vietnam.
Congratulations to Rondo and S4C for creating a worthy tribute to a great Welsh photographer.
You can watch the Documentary again on S4C March 2nd at 10pm with English subtitles.

Magnum Photographer Ian Berry delivering the 2nd The Nick Lewis Memorial Trust in Cardiff. Image © Brian Carroll
Ffoton Wales couldn't miss the opportunity to book a place for last night's guest lecture by Magnum Photos legend Ian Berry at Cardiff University's Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies
The talk was the second annual lecture dedicated to the life of former South Wales journalist Nick Lewis, which last year welcomed former Middle-East hostage John McCarthy. Lewis died of cancer in November 1999 at the age of 43 and, following his passing, The Nick Lewis Memorial Trust was established to support young journalists with scholarships, exhibitions and bursaries.
We worked to secure an exclusive interview with Ian prior to his Lecture and were chuffed to have photojournalist Glenn Edwards (a Newport DocPhoto Alumni taught by David Hurn and life-long Ian Berry fan) agree to speak with Ian. Gents both!
A great conversation.
Thanks also to USW Photojournalism student Stephen Meredith for taking the images below.
