Discussing the neutrality allowance- Do the civil servants deserve the increment they are demanding?

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) says government must review the public sector pay to mitigate the effects of increased prices of goods and services on workers. Addressing members at an organized labor pre-May Day Forum 2022, on Thursday, the General Secretary of the TUC, Dr. Yaw Baah, noted that since 2021, fuel prices have shot up a significant number of times, as a result, transport fares have increased, thereby affecting the prices of goods.

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced its intention to proceed on strike from Thursday, April 21 over the government’s failure to pay its members their neutrality allowance. The Association in a statement said the neutrality allowance formed part of a Memorandum of Understanding entered into with the government on January 20, 2022.

At least 20 persons slept in the open on Sunday evening because their properties were demolished. According to them, men stormed the village in the middle of the night in the company of masked men, suspected to be land guards and started pulling down buildings.

The price of a fixed basket of goods and services on Ghana's markets have seen a significant increase as January Consumer Price Index (CPI) hit 13.9%. The Ghana Statistical Service said the 13.9% CPI for January 2022 represents a 1.3% increase the price of goods and services since December 2021.
