More than 7,000 North Carolina teachers left the profession last year, according to the state’s newest annual teacher turnover report. While legislative leaders say that’s an improvement over recent years, veteran educators remain concerned. State Board of Education member James E. Ford discusses teacher attrition, efforts to retain the state’s best educators while attracting more teachers of color to the profession.
