Global e-commerce store, Jumia is facing a 17.5 million dollar fraud issue, as it's staff and some members of the Jumia Force (Jumia’s agents) were accused of inflating the volumes of order on the marketplace. The fate of the accused staff is not yet known, but they have been placed on suspension pending the conclusion of the investigation. In reaction to the allegation, the former CEO of rival brand, Konga, Sim Shagaya, has reacted to the scandal, condemning the report sent to investors by Jumia, saying it would have an adverse effect on other brands in the business, and their customers. He also said even though he, and the Konga team made their share of mistakes, they never went on to deceive customers as Jumia is being accused of, and he added that the staff couldn't have carried out the fraud successfully without the knowledge of the management. Jumia is battling several issues like improper orders by some of its employees, several class-action lawsuits for misinforming investors, as well as the increasing losses which grew 59.2% in one year.
