The South African Revenue Service Commissioner Edward Kieswetter has said the agency is in the process of signing a memorandum of understanding with the National Prosecuting Authority in move to speed up the process of ridding the institution of corruption. Addressing the 2019 Tax Indaba in Sandton, Johannesburg, Kieswetter said there were 1 177 tax-related cases awaiting prosecution and "the list continues to grow". He said a specialised SARS unit will also be working with other law enforcement

agencies such as the Special Investigating Unit. Since taking office on May 1, Kieswetter has vowed to clean up a tax service crippled by maladministration, which has caused revenue collection and tax morale to drop, and has been forthright about the challenges facing the agency, including a skills flight in a key revenue collection unit. He took over from the agency's interim commission Mark Kingon, who succeeded Tom Moyane who was fired in November 2018.

Irish firm, Process and Industrial Developments Ltd (P&ID) has initiated moves to identify the Nigerian assets that

can be seized which may include the country’s oil cargoes, over a failed gas project after a British court granted it the go-ahead. The representative of P&ID, Mr John Ehiguese cited the Argentinian and Venezuelan experiences as similar cases of assets seizure. Nigeria faces the danger of losing part of its foreign reserves if the country fails to initiate a strong bargaining power. President Muhammadu Buhari has been advised in the document to engage the country’s legal team to quickly admit and demonstrate faith in the ruling. P&ID, was awarded $6.6 billion in an arbitration decision over a failed project to build a gas processing plant in the Southern Nigerian city of Calabar. With the accumulated interest payments, the sum now tops $9 billion, which amounts to 20% of Nigeria’s foreign reserves.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on media and publicity, Mr Garba Shehu has announced that the President Muhammadu

Buhari's administration is working out modalities on how to fight international crime. This is as a result of the recent arrest of 80 Nigerians in the US fraud, including the Chairman of Invictus Group, Obinwanne Okeke  which has put Nigeria in a bad light. Shehu said new laws would be put in place by the National Assembly to serve as a deterrent to Nigerians, preventing them from committing crimes when they travel to other countries. He stated that every citizen is expected to follow the rules and regulations guiding the host countries when they travel out and that the present administration would not excuse criminalities.
