On today's episode, Zack and Derek break down the Detroit Red Wings games against the Florida Panthers Monday, and the St. Louis Blues last night.
We start off the episode with a shoutout to Matt our Co-Host, who has the night off to celebrate his 117th birthday. As well as Derek's Nanny, who was lovely enough to send us our first donation.
We then kick off going over recent Red Wings news, as they sign 24 yr old LHD Jon McDonald to a contract and reports to Toledo. Redmond Savage enters the transfer portal from University Miami Ohio to Michigan State University. Eliteprospects has a video stating that Red Wings prospect Shai Buium is a top prospect to watch during the NCAA hockey tournament.
Around the league news, yesterday March 21st, the NHL and Fanatics agree on a 10yr deal starting in 2024-2025, to become the next Jersey provider for the NHL. Yikes...
We then go into the game against the Florida Panther, where the Red Wings lose 5-2. The only bright spot of the game seemed to of come from Simon Edvinnson in his 2nd NHL appearance. Making a nice hit on Matt Tkachuk, having some fancy words with him, drawing in 2 penalties, and even taking a hard hip check from Gudas when on an attempted scoring opportunity Edvinnson almost created getting around the hard hitting defenseman.
Detroit is then playing the St. Louis Blues last night on Tuesday in a OT win 3-2 thanks to Raymond closing it out in a shootout ending the 3 game losing streak. Hellberg looked shaky in the first, but ultimately shined brighter as the game went on and helped the team when they needed him most in the shootout closing out every shooter that had a chance.
Edvinnson is out injured due to the hit from Radko Gudas, no indications on when he will make a return. Larkin continues his point streak, and Chiasson continues to light it up in front of the net on the powerplay for the 4th time.
Wings next game comes on Thursday night against the St. Louis Blues again. We missed out on talking about David Perron's return, but it was really nice to see his recognition and how much the fan base truly loved him. We did however mention how it was weird to play against Vrana, and how he looked lethal having 5 shots on net getting 17 minutes of ice time.
We then close off going over the standings and how many games are left in the season and if we miss the trade deadline players we dealt yet. Zack thinks this team is lucky to win 4 out of the 12 games they have left. Let us know what you think in the comment section!
