On today's episode, we are finally getting technology to work with us instead of against us!
• Derek asked “What team has made the highest jump in the draft lottery?”
o Philadelphia flyers from 13th to 2nd overall with a 2.4% and selected Nolan Patrick.
o Fun fact: The Flyers were prepared to draft Makar, but the coach at the time pounded on the table for Nolan Patrick. SONK!
Red Wings news:
• Patiently waiting for the Draft lottery on May 8th. We may go live for that.
• Toledo Walleye Goaltender John Lethemon wins the ECHL goalie of the year
o In 26 games started he posted a 18-1-3 record 1.99GA and a .930SV%
o Toledo leads their playoff series 2-0 currently
• Detroit Tigers have a new home run celebration; players wear a Red Wings helmet, grab a hockey stick, and rip a slap shot.
• Not really team RELATED, BUT Tyler Bertuzzi joined Boston’s elite as the 5th player in Bruins history to collect a point in each of his first four career playoff games
Around the league news:
• Jack EIchel scores his first playoff goal Thursday night in the 2nd game of the series
o Crazy to think that this is his 1st year in the playoffs and has been in the league since 15-16.
• Playoffs continue to roll out as some teams complete their 4th game today. Any surprises so far?
o Steven Stamkos vs Austin Matthews in last night’s game after the hit on Brayden point from Morgan Reilly into the boards. Toronto leads the series 2-1 after scoring late in OT.
• Speaking of, the u18 Mens Worlds continues to go off.
o Read the points leaders list
Player defense, goalie and team grades:
• Only players that played 10 or more games (minus Goalies)
• Players traded will not be graded
Draft Prospect Profile:
• Matvei Mitchkov
o Compared to being the next Ovi, kid is an offensive dynamo
o 18yrs old, 5’10” 170lbs shoots Left, but eliteprospects has him at 148lbs
o Skating could use some work but bodes well playing against men in the KHL with HK Sochi
o His shot is his best attribute, has some pretty nice passing which follows along with his high end hockey IQ
o Scored the Michigan goal in a KHL game
o A little lackadaisical on the back check and his overall compete. Likes to curl off on the weak side.
o Overall, he might slide just on the fact that he is Russian alone. Let alone his small stature might not bode well for teams looking for bigger/stronger players
Upcoming next episode:
• Continue to cover the playoffs and the u18 wc
• Prospect player profile Leo Carlsson
• Mock 23-24 Red Wings opening night roster
