• As fires rage across LA, city officials are complaining there are not enough firefighters to manage the situation.
• While their lack of manpower is completely understandable given the incredible ferocity of the fires, it is worth noting that many firefighters were fired for their refusal to take the COVID vaccine.
• LA Mayor Karen Bass cut the city’s Fire Department budget by $17.6 million ahead of this week’s devastating fires – as she prioritized funds for its massive homeless population that largely went unspent, according to a report.
• LA County Fire Department’s decision to donate surplus firefighting equipment to Ukraine in 2022 is now being met with heavy criticism.
• A 2018 clip resurfaced from President-elect Donald Trump's first term in office in which he told California Governor Gavin Newsom that it was important to clean up the forest floor. 
• And Trump brought this issue up again in 2024 with Joe Rogan.

• Meta is ending its fact-checking program and lifting restrictions on speech to "restore free expression" across Facebook, Instagram and Meta platforms, admitting its current content moderation practices have "gone too far." 
• The Biden administration reportedly has been negotiating with the Taliban to swap three Americans being held in Afghanistan for a Guantanamo Bay prisoner who is alleged to have been a close associate of Usama bin Laden.

• VP Harris had to oversee the certification of the election results, which resulted in Trump's victory.

• The session started with House Chaplain Margaret Kibben intoning a prayer that included her saying, “What was intended to be a historical parliamentary procedure turned quickly into turmoil and frustration and anger and fear.” Kibben then went on to discuss “enemies within” the country.
• Scott Jennings gave former Republican Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger a history lesson Monday about the times when Democrats challenged the results of a presidential election before Jan. 6, 2021.
