Yvette Nicole Brown spoke out Tuesday on social media ahead of the New Year’s Day release of I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not, which recounts Chase’s firing from the NBC sitcom after he allegedly used a racial slur on set.

“There are things I’ve never spoken of publicly and perhaps never will. CNN viewers are demanding the network drop Scott Jennings after he likened a hijab to The Handmaid's Tale during a conversation about Minnesota's Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan.

The controversial remark was made after Ms. Flanagan wore a hijab while visiting the Karmel Somali Market in Minneapolis on Friday, an act widely interpreted as a public rebuke of Donald Trump. During CNN's Newsnight, Jennings quipped, "They got the Lieutenant Governor up there dressed like the handmaid's tale."
Co-host Abby Phillip swiftly countered, asserting that such a comparison was inappropriate when referring to religious attire, regardless of the faith involved. She challenged him, asking, "Why on Earth is it acceptable to make a statement like that-You're describing the type of dress as the handmaid's tale, and you're doing that to denigrate the religion."

The two clashed on air, sparking immediate online backlash from viewers, many of whom called for the network to suspend or remove Jennings from its programming, reports the Irish Star.

One viewer expressed, "I'm sorry. This is too much. He should be suspended. Abby is right. If someone denigrated Orthodox Jews (or any other group that may be wearing religious garb), there would be a five-alarm fire. This is some sick s---!".

The debate came after Ms. Flanagan's trip to the Minneapolis market, where she donned a hijab to show solidarity with the Somali community. The Catholic politician began her remarks with the greeting "Salam alaikum" before voicing her support for local residents.

"I am incredibly clear that the Somali community is part of the fabric of the state of Minnesota," Ms Flanagan declared while standing beside Somali community leaders. She emphasized her deep-rooted connections to the community, stating, "Growing up here, the Somali community has always been a part of my Minnesota."

Brigitte Bardot, the French actor and singer who became a global sensation before reinventing herself as an animal protection campaigner and outspoken supporter of the far right, has died aged 91.

The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announced her death on Sunday, saying “with immense sadness” that its founder and president had died.
In a statement sent to the AFP news agency, the foundation described Bardot as “a world-renowned actress and singer, who chose to abandon her prestigious career to dedicate her life and energy to animal welfare and her foundation”. It did not give details about when or where she died.

Bardot rose to international fame in 1956 with her role in And God Created Woman, a film that sought to project female sexuality on screen. She went on to appear in about 50 films, becoming one of the most recognisable faces of post-war French cinema.

In the early 1970s, Bardot quit acting at the height of her fame, turning her attention to animal protection. While her campaigning earned admiration from supporters, her public life grew increasingly controversial as she embraced far-right politics and made repeated racist and inflammatory remarks.

Her activism hardened into open support for France’s far-right National Front, now known as National Rally, and the party’s longtime leader Marine Le Pen. Over the years, French courts convicted Bardot multiple times for inciting racial hatred.

In 2022, a court fined her 40,000 euros ($47,000) after she described people from Reunion, a French overseas territory, as “degenerates” who had “kept their savage genes”. It marked the sixth time authorities had sanctioned her for racist and hate speech. Muslims and immigrants were among her frequent targets.

New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani (D) on Saturday rejected Elon Musk’s argument that his appointment to head up the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) is inexperienced. 

“Experience does matter, which is why I appointed the person who spent more than 30 years at EMS. You know, the workforce that addresses at least 70% of all calls coming into FDNY?” Mamdani wrote in a post on the social platform X.
His comment was in response to Musk’s earlier post alleging that people would “die” due to the appointment of Lillian Bonsignore, a veteran Emergency Medical Services leader.

“People will die because of this. Proven experience matters when lives are at stake,” the tech billionaire and former White House adviser wrote in a post on X, which he controls.

Musk has railed against Mamdani alongside some Trump administration officials who condemned the mayor-elect’s policy proposals aligned with democratic socialism.

The announcement of Bonsignore on Friday spawned the latest round of attacks, as she’s set to become New York City’s first openly gay fire commissioner and the second woman to lead the fire department, according to Fox 5.
