Community Keepers provides therapeutic counselling and host life changing workshops for learners, educators and parents at our 28 partner schools, in marginalised communities. Their dream is to partner with as many communities as possible, to build resilience and a culture of well-being. Nobody should be denied access to mental health care because they are poor or live in a remote place.

A group of Free State young entrepreneurs have created a mobile app that will help spaza shop owners operate more efficiently. They are the quartet of Tumi Letsaba, Kgomotso Sebitlo, Ditjhaba Selemela and Bandile Ntombela who are the founders of a tech company called Next Curve Creations.
Progressive Creations will help traders unite for discounts, and for stock monitoring. It will also help individual owners keep better inventory records. The app will help owners contain expenses and increase access to the marketplace. At present, the app is being tested among a closed user group of spaza shop owners in Frankfort.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has just signed the Cybercrimes Bill, which seeks to bring South Africa’s cybersecurity laws in line with the rest of the world. The bill criminalises the disclosure of data messages which are harmful and intimate images on social media.
Other offences include cyber fraud, forgery, extortion and theft of incorporeal property. The unlawful and intentional access of computer system or computer data storage medium is also considered an offence, along with the unlawful interception of, or interference with, data.

With Youth Day coming up on June 16, South Africans will be commemorating the lives lost in the Soweto student uprisings and the role played by the youth in our country’s liberation. It will also be a time to reflect on the challenges and issues faced by today’s youth.

One such issue is excessive alcohol consumption, which South Africa is well known for and our drinking culture and youth are no strangers to overindulgence. The challenge with this is that excessive drinking can lead to dependency and impact negatively on our youth’s family lives, relationships and even work. For safety reasons, employers need to ensure that younger employees are not arriving at work still intoxicated from the night before, especially when operating heavy machinery as this could lead to an accident.

The Draw the Line Against Malaria campaign is supported by a team of African changemakers, including Springboks captain Siya Kolisi and South African explorer Saray Khumalo. They are coming together to inspire youth across Africa to call on leaders and push for political action to end malaria within their generation.
