As the world observed World Aids Day on the 1 December, South Africa used the opportunity to reflect on the gains made in the fight against HIV and AIDS. The Big question is: What have we achieved since the dawn our democracy in the fight against Hiv and Aids?

The private sector must do more to support government and include South Africans with disabilities in the workforce. This will not only benefit the individuals as well as businesses, but the economy at large. That was the overarching message during today’s multi-stakeholder gathering organised by LESCO Manufacturing in Johannesburg, ahead of International Day of People with Disabilities.

South Africa has some of the most mature air quality legislation and infrastructure in Africa, providing a relatively consistent supply of quality data. There’s a network of government-run stations and some industry-run stations reporting to the South African Air Quality Information System.

Climate change is playing an increasingly important role in the decision making processes of mining projects. Even as early as the pre-feasibility stages, its impact on factors such as water management and social licence needs to be considered.

Water management, for example, is becoming more complex as rainfall patterns in many areas start to change in frequency and intensity, says Philippa Burmeister, principal scientist at SRK Consulting.

So in brief, I recently published a book called ‘Fathering Sons' which was officially launched in March 2019. The book is a compendium of issues raised in a survey of 120 men on what kind of relationship they had with their fathers and how they would like to relate with their sons.
