INTRO 

 And thee nightmare continues with Episode #15. Most garage groups on  this wailing half an hour hail from Spain! In order of appearance: The  Embrooks, Els Trons, The Phantom Four, The Flight Reaction, Os Haxixins,  The Ratkellers, Bobkat '65, BJ's New Breed and The Giljoteens.   Opening number on my latest "Parthian Shots" mix is "Nightmare" by The  Embrooks, released 2016. Recorded in mono and mixed at State Studios  during May 2016. They make a right old racket for a three piece. Here's a  four song EP by Spanish group Els Trons. All numbers are cover  versions, virtually impossible to surpass the originals or at least the  most well known versions, but they sure do a good job with "Res A Fer" "Res A Fer" is indeed "Outside Chance". Els Trons go for a jangle  folk-rock take and it works!

 Two numbers from The Voo-Dooms album "Destination Doomsville" can be  heard on the latest 'Parthian Shots' mix #14. This new group of crypt  kickers are seasoned ghouls on the UK rhythm & beat scene and have  an early 60s vibration going on here. I can't recommend this LP enough.  Recorded in demonic MO-FI, music for executions and other sordid  entertainment. Perfect soundtrack for your Helloween Monster Mash  shindigs. Les Grys-Grys publicity sheet for their first single "Hot  Gully Wind" / "Neighbour, Neighbour" released 2014. Both sides are  savage rhythm and beat and featured on #14. WHY have I only recently  found out about Lulufin the Woo Hoo? Man, I need to look around on  Bandcamp more often. Both of their new recordings are purist surf beat  and sound top shelf. Their extra high wigs are a joy to behold

 The Baron Four publicity sheet reads twangin' guitars, throbbing bass,  pounding drums and frenetic vocals combine to produce the most exciting  sound you'll hear this year! released: April 2013. Debut single by Paul  Messis from 2009 at a time when he was exploring angst ridden teen punk  garage. A "State" production so no doubt Marty and Mole played on this  too....sleeve put through my 'dragan effect script.'

Here's a 2017 single release from The Mourning After. Classy modern  garage punk with that pulsating guitar riff. Back in thee late 80s I  hung out with Chris B and a few of us ended up at his gaff in Sheffield  for a few cans of lager and to talk some shit (as you did). I've never  seen so many Kinks posters on a bedroom wall. That's where he gets his  inspiration from ⭐ early period Kinks. Don't think I've heard Lenny's  vocal take as gruff and nasty as this before. "Dishin' The Dirt" is full  of menace. Perfect garage beat rocker from 2013. This single came in a  wraparound thick cover so I've scanned it all.

"I Found You Out" by The Beginner's Mynd is awash with 12 string jangle,  has a steady backbeat, swirling organ and an overall dream like  quality. I reckon this disc was inspired more by early Rain Parade than  anything from the 60s. Look around on the net, I'm sure it will still be  available somewhere. 2015 release. Wild Evel & the Trashbones look  like they'd cause havoc wherever they played

 My next "Parthian Shots" mix is gonna be an all female affair including two numbers from the Bobkat '65 album on Get Hip....their totally wired covers of Missing Lynx "To Be Like You" and Esquires teen punk weeper "Loneliness Is Mine." Check out "Destroy That Boy" by thee primitive space-age go-go girls The Rosalyns  on my latest mix. The number is from their four song EP on Ugly Things  Records released 2014. More recordings in thee pipeline from The  Rosalyns expected. The Jackets from Bern, Switzerland play  fuzztoned garage punk, they're a three piece and make a lot of noise.  Front woman and guitarist looks as wild as they sound which to my ears  comes across like The Rezillos meets The Monks. Check out their promo  video of "Wasting My Time" it's a hoot and shows that they don't take themselves too seriously.

 The Quarter After are a recent discovery for me although their album "Changes Near"  was released on CD back in 2007. Their Facebook page has had no  activity since 2015 so I'm assuming that they are no more. Recommended  sounds for anyone with a love of The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield and Gene  Clark's solo material. Also hints of modern day janglers like Teenage  Fanclub. Why did I take so long to discover The Quarter After? OK, it's  time to brag about my white label test pressing that Paul from The Belltowers sent me back in 2014. Yes, I am thee #1 fan and will take any opportunity to promote this fabulous group. "No Matter"  is on Mix 10. Totally great uptempo jangler. All members operating as  one and thee results are outstanding. More Belltowers "Parthian Shots"  to come in the future, maybe even a Belltowers Special which will  obviously be way-out.

Another Thanes number in the mix, this time the Lenny Helsing uptempo swinger "Sun Didn't Come Out Today" released in 2000 on Sundazed Records. Another crude Ar-Kaics garage number has made it onto a mix. "Slave To Her Lies" is the flip of "Why Should I?" on Windian. Recorded in mono and released in tiny quantity in 2014. An excellent four track EP by The Giljoteens was released back in 2002  on the Screaming Apple label. Plenty more to come from The Giljoteens  who played a style of garage beat recurrent nowadays but back then it  was a rarity.An Indikation 'Special' mix is available on "Parthian Shots" Episode 8. Check it out cos it's a trip.

Following the demise of The Others Massimo del Pozzo formed a new group called The Tyme Society  who also played a brand of '66 folk garage, so in all honesty they  sounded just like The Others, especially as both outfits had Massimo's  distinctive vocals and utilized jangle. This was The Tyme Society's  first release on the small indie label Psych-Out Records. It was pressed  in a quantity of 500. Both sides are del Pozzo originals and were  recorded at Delta Studio in Rome during February 2000. I need more Worthless  music in my life. Their 45 on Market Square Records was limited to 300  copies and came in a colour sleeve with a postcard insert. Their way-out  noise is a combination of underground mind trips and basement reverie.  Brooklyn based combo, released 2015 and sold out. Now to play a number  from the Wicked Whispers rare 10" EP from 2011. Try finding a copy! Only 300 pressed. Anyway, what a cool neo psychedelic outing.

Episode 9 takes on a much more psychedelic trip than previous "Parthian  Shots" which were loud, brash and a mix of modern day garage punk and  outsider folk rock. So, take a drink of your magic potion, climb aboard  thee mystery train into a realm of colours and whispering corridors. Each number used in my mix will be inspected thoroughly in order to  determine their nature or condition. The picture I've used is a scan  from a fashion article inside Petticoat magazine published 8th October,  1966.  The debut Fogbound single dates from 2014 and is already a sought  after disc. Copies sold out within weeks, perhaps only 500 were ever  pressed. Both sides are modern day psychedelic classics, recorded at  Circo Perrotti after winning The Battle of the Bands at Euro Ye-Yé mod  & '60s weekend in 2013.  In my mind I picture Balduin as some kind of intense and suitably  mad gnome type creature living in a hut on top of a Swiss mountain.  He's like a one man band playing every instrument on this now rare EP on  Sunstone Records. Released in early 2014 and sold out within a blink of  an eye. For the record Balduin plays electric and acoustic guitars,  mellotron, bass, acoustic harpsichord, piano, organ, vibraphone,  celesta, lyre, sitar, harmonium, drums & percussion. He only  ventured out of his mystical hut on top of a mountain in the Swiss Alps  to seek premastering aid at Whitewood Studios.  Now to play a number from the Wicked Whispers rare 10" EP from  2011. Try finding a copy! Only 300 pressed. Anyway, what a cool neo  psychedelic outing. "Amanda Lavender" is quite special. Dig thee Doors  style organ sound especially. Us & Them really deliver the goods with this stupendous four song EP of Paul Giovanni covers taken from the soundtrack of an early 70s cult movie from Britain called 'The Wicker Man'....Quite simply, along with Kes, one of the best films ever made and easily THEE best soundtrack.  It must have been an impossible task to reproduce the brilliance of  Giovanni's original acid-folk songs but Us & Them really capture the  macabre sounds and eerie mood of them all. The perfect musicianship and  the addition of mellotron and dulcimer into the mix create brilliant  new interpretations of 'Corn Rigs', 'Gently Johnny', 'Fire Leap' and 'Willow's Song'.   'Sea In A Shell' is just how I dig my neo psych. There is  constant 12 string and fuzz action throughout. On top of this heady brew  is lilting and echoey female vocals. You could easily mistake The Dawnbreakers 45 as a  long lost 1967 gem. It has a very authentic sound. There is a killer 12  string raga break just like those McGuinn interludes from the Younger  Than Yesterday sessions. 'Remember' is similar in style but not as cool as the top side.  It's still impressive though and a worthy B-side. Both songs were  written by Chris Maes.  I Fenomeni hail from Genova, Italy and have released a few records that have since come under my radar. Their mod-pop Who drenched number "Bruciamo"  is in this mix, remastered from a yellow flexi-disc. The latter was  released in 2015, not sure of the number of copies but it can't have  been that many. The Higher State were firing on all psychedelic cylinders when they recorded a fine rendition of "Transparent Day" which I'm struggling to believe how perfect their performance is. Beautiful record and one to add to your collection. 

 This time 'round I present thee World with a Parthian Shots Special Edition with thee ultra cool Beat combo The Indikation  who hailed from Norway. They were a short-lived outfit but left garage  beat freaks a handful of singles and an impressive album to recollect  and enjoy for many years to come. The cuts I present here are all from  their much in demand singles. Crank up the volume and light up your mind  with their way-out and immaculate Norwegian beat music.

Two sides of coolness, this was The Indikation's first single. Released  2002 and now highly sought after, not many copies for sale floating  around the internet. Recorded at Toe Rag Studios in London on vintage  60s equipment and it sounds like it. Highly recommended 45.

 I'm sorting out the 45s I'm gonna use for my next episode of "Parthian Shots" and The Neumans are in. "Fuzz Filled Dreams"  is a fuzz ravin' teen punk blast of Godliness and is already one of my  all time fave rave turntable spins. If someone ever decides to compile a  "Back From The Grave" type set with contributions from post 1966 groups  I'd be severely disappointed if this hot mind cruncher isn't the lead  off track on Side One. Garage punk group Los Peyotes from Buenos  Aires sound and look a bit on thee wyld side
