Introducing in order of appearance: The Thanes, BJ's New Breed, The Embrooks, Graham Day & the Gaolers, The Indikation, Suzi Chunk, The Noble Krell, The Tyme Society, The Young Sinclairs and The Saffron Sect. Kicking off Episode 5 (after the "Vendetta" Theme tune) is the respected and long time going Thanes. "What You Can't Mend" is an Angus McPake original. BJ's New Breed get a solid mod beat going with "Baby's Gone For Good" on their single released 2014. Nuggets are out there if you know where to look. The group evolved out of the ashes of Vienna combo The Jaybirds. So pleased that they are making records.
Limited to 500 copies and on the heaviest vinyl I've got for a 45. Circle Records released this Embrooks single in 2002. "Dawn Breaks Through" is a cover of The Barrier freakbeat tune and it's a loud noise and with-it. Authentic in every way and skillfully produced by Liam Watson at the famous Toe-Rag Studio in London. Pounding single from 2007. Three piece but they make a full and loud noise. Both sides have been used in my mixes and I'm sure they will turn up again. Seek it out and buy a copy.
The Indikation!!! surely one of the best revival groups since the turn of the new Millennium. All of their releases are recommended, the early singles are becoming rare and sought after. This four track EP was released on Larsen Recordz back in 2003. The number I chose from this EP for my mix "Swedish Girl" is an absolute gem of a beat song. It's like we have a reincarnation of The Mascots circa 1965/66. An alternative cover for Suzi Chunk's promo CD release before the vinyl copies were circulated from April 2012. "Tripwire" is on this mix, quite the mid 60s swinger too. The Noble Krell use Vox and Rickenbacker equipment. They are produced by Dr. Morbius, engineered by Robby the Robot and recorded at The Krell Laboratory. You have been forewarned.
Outstanding single by Rome group The Tyme Society who evolved out of The Others. "I Gotta Know" is a perfect jangle folk-rocker New England '66 style. Recorded December 2000 and released the following year. 500 copies made available. "Engineer Man" by The Young Sinclairs appears to have been a one man enterprise, namely Samuel J Lunsford who played all instruments and added vocals. This number reminds me a little of The Who during their mod pop phase. Only 300 copies pressed on Market Square Records in 2013.
