Educators in Gloucester, Beverly and now Marblehead continue to strike over a “fair contract.” The educators in these communities have been working under expired contracts since this past Summer. All three teachers’ unions are fighting for a new contract that includes higher wages, more benefits and parental leave among other demands. As many as 10k students could be affected by these strikes. Dan heard listeners thoughts on the ongoing strikes!

After this week’s presidential election loss, some Democrats are rethinking their priorities and what issues they will emphasize going forward. U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton has expressed concern over the party’s focus on identity politics and suggests the party should shift its approach to transgender issues. Dan discussed whether it’s time for a Democratic reassessment.

Teachers in the towns of Beverly and Gloucester went on strike, closing schools. Teachers are asking for better pay, benefits, and smaller, more manageable class sizes, among other demands. While it is illegal for teachers to go on strike in Massachusetts, both the Beverly Teachers Association and the Gloucester Teachers Association are committed to striking until a contract is reached.

Karen Read and her defense team appeared before the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to get two criminal charges against Read, thrown out on the grounds of double jeopardy. Read’s second criminal trial is supposed to start in January of 2025. However, this week both the prosecution and defense teams filed a motion to delay the retrial until April 1, 2025. Dan Rea and criminal defense attorney Phil Tracy discussed the ongoing Karen Read case!
