In the finale episode of Season 1 of the  F-Rated Interview, Suneeta takes us through her childhood in the mining town of Mahoba where she went from reading whatever scraps of newspaper she could find to becoming an award-winning journalist with Khabar Lahariya. For Suneeta, crime reporting is a source of great pleasure as she gets to look powerful people in the eye, and ask them questions. Suneeta Prajapati started working with Khabar Lahariya as an 18 year-old in 2012, and is now the operations manager at Chambal Academy where she trains and empowers young girls from rural areas to use the feminist lens to cover stories and issues that affect them. Over the years, Suneeta has taken on the nexus between politicians, media and mining contractors, tracked the debilitating violence against women in UP, and covered local and national elections.

F रेटेड के इस सीज़न फिनाले में मिलिए ग्रामीण डिजिटल न्यूज़चैनल ‘खबर लहरिया’ से जुड़ी पत्रकार सुनीता प्रजापति से जो अपराध और खामोशी के बीच क्राइम रिपोर्टिंग करने की अपनी यात्रा पर हमें साथ लेकर जाती हैं. उत्तर-प्रदेश के महोबा जिले से पत्रकारिता की शुरुआत करने वाली सुनीता के काम का विस्तार दिल्ली जैसे महानगर तक फैला है. सुनीता ने साल 2012 में खबर लहरिया के साथ करना शुरू किया और 2020 तक वे वरिष्ठ संवाददाता के पद पर काम करती रहीं. 2021 में वे डिजिटल मीडिया सोशल इंटरप्राइज़ -चंबल मिडिया के ट्रेनिंग वर्टिकल चंबल एकेडमी में ऑपरेशन मैनेजर के रूप में युवा लड़कियों को पत्रकारिता में ट्रेन करती हैं और उन्हें फ़ील्ड रिपोर्टिंग के गुण सीखाती हैं. सुनीता के लिए क्राइम रिपोर्टिंग असल में अपराध को उसके जड़ से समझने की कोशिश है. बचपन में अवैध खनन के दौरान किसी की मौत या गांव में दहेज के लिए किसी महिला को मार डालने जैसी खबरें जहां रोज़मर्रा की आम घटना जैसी होती थीं, वहीं पत्रकार बनने के बाद वे इन घटनाओं के जड़ की तरफ मुड़ीं. कौन, कहां, क्या, कैसे, कब और कैसे- सुनीता के लिए यह अपराध को जानने-समझने का मूलमंत्र है और ताकतवर लोगों की आंखों में आंखें मिलाकर उनसे सवाल करना उन्हें हिम्मत और ताकत देता है। आइए, सुनते हैं सुनीता की ज़ुबानी, उनकी कहानी।

In this episode, Safina narrates bitter-sweet experiences of reporting within one's own community and listening to women who are so rarely heard by anyone, let alone the mainstream media. Having found her feet in freelance journalism without giving in to the temptations of sensational breaking news, she states how free she feels when she is not bound by the editorial processes and policies of the newsroom. Safina Nabi is a full-time, independent multimedia journalist from South Asia based in Kashmir. She writes about gender, health, human rights, social justice, development, and the environment. She won the Fetisov Journalism Award and Laadli Media Award in 2023 for her year-long investigation about the property rights of “Half widows” from different parts of Kashmir which raised important questions about the rights of women and the role of government, society, and legal structures when it comes to women and their rights to property in disturbed regions.

She also serves as visiting faculty for Media Studies at Ashoka University.

F-रेटेड इंटरव्यूह में आगे बढ़ते हुए हम पहुंच चुके हैं अपने चौथे एपिसोड में जहां इस बार हमारे साथ हैं वह पत्रकार जिनका नाम भारत में इंनवेस्टिगेटिव रिपोर्टर्स में सबसे अग्रणी नामों में शामिल हैं. मिलिए नेहा दीक्षित से जो एक स्वतंत्र पत्रकार हैं और दिल्ली में रहती हैं. उन्होंने कई विभिन्न माध्यमों में चर्चित एवं प्रसिद्ध संस्थानों के साथ काम किया है. इसमें प्रमुख हैं: कारवां, आउटलुक, द वायर, न्यूज़मिनिट, अल जज़ीरा टीवी, और वॉशिंगटन पोस्ट.   ‘एक खोजी पत्रकार के लिए दिमाग से ज़्यादा पैरों की ज़रूरत होती है.’ एक प्रोफेसर द्वारा दी गई इस सीख को अपने काम में गांठ बांधकर रख लेने वाली नेहा का मानना है कि खोजी पत्रकारिता ज़मीन पर जाकर ही की जा सकती है. यही वजह है कि अशोका यूनिवर्सिटी के अपने छात्रों से लेकर तमाम उन स्टूडेंट्स के लिए जिनके भीतर पत्रकारिता की लौ जल रही है, उनकी एक ही सलाह है कि, “करो, एक विषय लो, फील्ड पर जाओ, और करो.” नेहा दीक्षित राजनीति, जेंडर और सामाजिक न्याय से जुड़े विषयों पर काम करती हैं. 16 साल के पत्रकारिता करियर में उन्हें दर्जनों अवॉर्ड प्राप्त हो चुके हैं जिनमें अंतरराष्ट्रीय प्रेस स्वतंत्रता पुरस्कार 2019, अंतरराष्ट्रीय पत्रकारिता में कर्ट शॉर्क पुरस्कार (2014), लोरेंजी नटाली पुरस्कार (2011), उत्कृष्ट महिला पत्रकार के लिए चमेली देवी जैन पुरस्कार (2016) शामिल हैं. वर्तमान में वह अशोका यूनिवर्सिटी में मीडिया स्टडीज़ विभाग के साथ बतौर विज़िटिंग फैकल्टी जुड़ी हुई हैं.

The third episode features Nidhi Suresh who takes us to Lakhimpur and Hathras, and makes visible the violence that takes place on the scene post the crime. She negotiates quid pro quo with local reporters and highlights the importance of slow and quiet questions even (and especially) when hordes of reporters are covering one story. Nidhi Suresh is a freelance journalist who has previously reported for Newslaundry and Deutsche Welle. After reporting in Kashmir for a year, she completed her Masters in conflict studies and human rights from Utrecht University, Netherlands. At Newslaundry, she covered gender, crime and politics.

Her consistent reporting on gender-based violence in rural India has led to effective police action and justice for survivors. Neetu has over 13 years of experience in rural journalism, and has won the Laadli Media Award eight times for gender sensitive reporting. She also won Chameli Devi Jain Award for outstanding women mediapersons and the Priyanka Dahele Award for promising young journalists in 2020.
