In this No Borders Media extended feature interview, we learn more about the organizing in support of Abdoul Abdi, a former child refugee, survivor of the foster care system, and prisoner. This past July, Abdi was finally allowed to stay in Canada despite several deportation attempts by the Canadian government.

Abdi's case exposes multiple injustices of systems of control in the Canadian state, including the immigration system, the so-called child protection system, as well as the criminal justice and prison system.

The successful mobilizing to keep Abdi in Canada is also an inspiring example of multifaceted, cross-city, intersectional organizing, as well as the power of Grassroots Black Canada.

No Borders Media presents an exclusive interview with Indigenous warrior Kanahus Manuel, in the aftermath of the recent Canada Federal Court of Appeal decision to quash approval of the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline project.

The pipeline, which would move tar sands crude and refined oil from Alberta to the British Columbia Coast, has been actively opposed by diverse groups, and by varied means, including civil disobedience and direct action. The heart of the resistance has been Indigenous nations in the path of the proposed pipeline. Kanahus is active with both the Secwepemc Women Warriors and the Tiny House Warriors in resisting the Trans Mountain pipeline. For many years, she has organized against corporate exploitation of the lands of her people, including the Sun Peaks ski resort, Imperial Metals, as well as the Mount Polley mine.

In this exclusive interview, the first one she has given since the Federal Court of Appeal decision, Kanahus both responds to the recent legal victory against the pipeline, and provides context and analysis about ongoing grassroots resistance to destructive resource extraction projections. She speaks to us from beside the Blue River, on the path of the proposed pipeline.

Incarcerated prisoners across the USA declared a nationwide strike in response to the deaths of seven prisoners during a riot at a maximum security prison in South Carolina this past April. The Prison Strike is demanding, among other things, humane living conditions, access to rehabilitation, sentencing reform and the end of modern day slavery. A previous strike in 2016 involved upwards of 24,000 prisoners in 24 states,

To get more information about the current prison strike, No Borders Media speaks with El Jones, a supporter of the current protest by prisoners at the Burnside Jail near Halifax, Nova Scotia. We also speak with Brooke Terpstra, a member of the Oakland, California chapter of the Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee (IWOC), one of the main organizing groups of the current Prison Strike.
