The Wedding Date (2005, 44:38) is a movie about Kat (Debra Messing), a woman who hires a male escort (Dermot Mulroney) to be her date for her sister's wedding where her ex-fiance is the best man. It's a swift 80 minutes full of messy choices all around but with clever writing and features Holland Taylor and Amy Adams as Kat's mother and sister, respectively. Listen to hear how this is a technically a perfect TV romance movie, and a somewhat memorable theatrically released film. Golf-themed bachelorette parties and drunken ATM withdrawals abound!

Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick in turn play two mischievous friends who trick the brother into thinking they'll be sweet responsible dates to impress the family in order to score a free vacation. Chaos ensues, and you get one of the funniest movies in the past 10 years. 50 First Dates (2004, 21:10) is a romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore about a man who falls for a woman with short-term memory loss reliving the same day over and over again, so she's meeting him for the first time every time. While Adam and Drew have so much charisma, this movie doesn't have a lot of jokes that still hit the same way today, and it's clearly adapted from a script that was way more Nicholas Sparks than SNL. Listen to hear what moments from the movie would be different in 2026 and why Drew Barrymore remains a national treasure.
