  • THAT'S RIGH! The Doo-wap Episode

Rich Azzolino’s guests are Fantasy Records Joe Tarantino (“Mr. Music of North Beach”) and the legendary Johnny Madara, who started his career 70 years ago on a street corner in Philadelphia. He formed Danny and The Juniors and wrote his first number one hit “At The Hop.” Which was followed by many more, including “Rock and Roll Is Here To Stay,” “You Don’t Own Me," “1-2-3," ”The Fly,” and lots of others.

Johnny is a rock ’n’ roll pioneer who found himself smack dab in the center of the doo wop phenomenon. It was a time when teenagers like Madara were so poor they couldn’t afford musical instruments, so they wrote and sang songs on street corners, replacing guitars and drums with “oop-shoops” and “dom-dom-de-doo-be-doms” and “sha-na-na-nas” and “va-dang-a-dang-dangs” and “rama-lama-ding-dongs.”

So give a listen to one of Richie’s most fascinating episodes and discover who put the bomp in the "bomp-bah-bomp!"

  • Steve Lynch and the Godfather of Motor City Rock ‘n’ Roll!

    Good golly, Miss Molly!

When we first heard that Steve Lynch’s very first rock concert was Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels, we decided to surprise him with none other than the great Mitch Ryder as his special guest.

And Steve was pleasantly surprised, to say the least!

After all, Mitch Ryder is The Godfather of Motor City Rock ‘n’ Roll. (And Steve was born and bred in Detroit!)

Mitch Ryder Is also the first living white artist to be inducted into the R&B Hall of Fame. (Elvis Presley had been inducted before Mitch, but posthumously.)

Mitch Ryder’s gritty, high-octane, take-no-prisoners brand of Detroit rock ‘n’ roll (i.e., Devil With The Blue Dress On/Good Golly Miss Molly, C.C. Rider/Jenny Take A Ride, Little Latin Lupe Lu, etc.) has greatly influenced Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, John Mellencamp and Iggy Pop.

In this very special episode of No Shortage of Money with Steve Lynch, Mitch Ryder reveals to Steve some things he’s never before made public.

    Oh, the joy!

  • Rock 'n roll with self-made millionaire Rudy Colombini

Rudy, as many of you might already know, is the front man and founder of The Unofficial Rolling Stones. Rudy has poured his heart and soul, not to mention a ton of moolah, into the creation of a dream-come-true. A rock and roll wonderland called Music City San Francisco. In this fascinating episode, Rudy also talks about how, at the ripe young age of seventeen, a chance meeting with John Lennon inspired him to pursue his dream of writing and performing music. And, of course, he and Steve Lynch also talk about Rudy's other great inspirations, including The Rolling Stones! In the words of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, “It’s only rock ’n’ roll (but he likes it!”).

  • Steve McQueen's last great love

Steve Lynch's guest is the marvelous Barbi McQueen a.k.a. Barbara Minty, former supermodel and widow of Steve McQueen (the King of Cool) is an international photographer and author of Steve McQueen: The Last Mile.

Barbi grew up on a dairy farm in Oregon. She was among the world’s highest paid models. One day, a famous movie star sees a photo of her. Wasn’t hard to do, she was everywhere. On the cover of top magazines and featured in a ton ads. He contacts her agent, sets up a meeting, maybe has ta part for her in a movie. But this supermodel doesn’t go to all that many movies. And to complicate things, the agent doesn’t give her the name of this movie star. So she walks into the restaurant having no idea who this movie star is. He has a full beard and is looking kind of scruffy but seeing those piercing blue eyes, she thinks he’s Paul Newman. Long story short, it’s not Newman. It’s Steve McQueen. The King of Cool. And this gorgeous model, known to the world as Barbara Minty, ultimately becomes Mrs. McQueen. They lived happily in an airport hanger packed with about a hundred motorcycles, as well as around a hundred exotic and vintage cars, including a Porsche 917, Porsche 908 and Ferrari 512 race cars. And, of course, being an airport hangar there’s his notorious yellow Boeing Stearman bi-plane.
