We are so happy to be back and posting episodes consistently! Make sure you leave a like or comment letting us know what you got out of the episode or a topic you would like to hear more about. Today we are joined by our Washington Outreach Specialist Erika. While Erika is not in recovery she has had multiple people in her life who have struggled with substance abuse. Often the silent victim of substance abuse is the families or partners of the person struggling. Erika helps us to shed light on the experiences of loved ones who are affected by someone’s substance abuse as well as how to cope with someone else’s addiction and recovery.
Most of the time addiction is associated with a childhood and upbringing of extreme poverty and abuse. While this isn’t rare it's also common that addicts are raised in middle to upper class homes with a lot of love and support including excelling at school and sports. Alejandro’s journey is one of these. More and more addiction and alcoholism effects the “normal” people and it is important to recognize stories like Alejandro’s.
We are back! After a long hiatus we are back to talk about recovery! We kick off our trip to Washington with Brandon, an alumnus of Northpoint from 2016. Brandon’s story is not all the uncommon in the Seattle area. What is uncommon is how far Brandon has gone in his recovery to make recovery as available as possible to as many people as he can.
Glen is a recent Northpoint graduate that has graciously agreed to share with us what it is like to go through early recovery. Glen grew up surrounded by addiction. Faced by physical ailments, sobriety has been an uphill battle. Glen has proved himself to be committed to finding long lasting recovery and shares with us why that is and how he plans to achieve it. "If you ever find yourself doubting you can make it through a challenge, simply think back to everything you’ve overcome in the past." – Karen Salmansohn
