Today on Nobody Knows Anything, Jesse sits down with Senator Chris Murphy to discuss his new book The Crisis of the Common Good—and why he believes Donald Trump is less the cause of America’s dysfunction than a symptom of a much deeper crisis. Murphy argues that the country has been shaped by six modern “cults” of American life—profit, efficiency, technology, consumption, credentials, and corruption—that have hollowed out community, concentrated power, and left people feeling disconnected, powerless, and alone.
From there, Jesse and Murphy dig into what a more worker-centered version of capitalism could actually look like, including Murphy’s push for a $25 minimum wage, his critique of corporate power, and why Democrats can’t afford to remain the party of the status quo. They also get into the loneliness epidemic, AI regulation, the dangers of “frictionless” tech, and Murphy’s argument that Democrats need to build a broader, more economically populist coalition if they want to compete with Trumpism in the years ahead.
Along the way, they talk about rebuilding local community, the decline of shared public life, the rise of “velvet rope” America, and why Murphy believes the deeper challenge facing the country isn’t just political corruption—but a crisis of meaning, connection, and the common good itself.

Today on Nobody Knows Anything, Jesse sits down with Colorado political reporter Kyle Clark to break down the biggest Democratic primaries in the country—and what they could mean for the future of the party. They dive into the blockbuster Denver race between longtime incumbent Diana DeGette and rising progressive Melat Kiros, ask whether anti-establishment momentum is finally catching up to Democratic incumbents, and discuss why Colorado has suddenly become the political battleground everyone should be watching.
From there, they unpack the battle for Colorado's 8th Congressional District, John Hickenlooper's surprisingly vulnerable Senate primary, and the high-stakes Democratic governor's race between Michael Bennet and Phil Weiser. Along the way, they debate whether voters are rejecting the Democratic establishment, what makes an effective progressive candidate, and which races could send shockwaves through the party heading into 2028.
Then it's over to the Republican side, where Kyle explains why Colorado's GOP primary has become one of the strangest contests in the country—including the rise of Victor Marx, the viral debate moments that landed on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and why truth can sometimes be stranger than satire. Finally, they discuss Jared Polis' increasingly uneasy relationship with Colorado Democrats, his national ambitions, and where one of the party's most unconventional governors goes from here.

Today on Nobody Knows Anything, Rob and Jesse break down a wild night in the midterms as a socialist surge sweeps through New York — Zohran Mamdani plays kingmaker, several establishment incumbents go down, and the guys ask whether the "Democratic Tea Party" has officially arrived. They dig into Mamdani's riskiest bet of all, the brutal turn the Gaza debate has taken inside the primaries, and what an emboldened DSA means for a Big Tent party heading into 2028. From there it's on to the great AI super PAC flop, where Leading the Future torched millions only to push the winning candidate further against them — proof you can spend $30 million, get your guy elected, and still somehow lose. A round of Winner or Loser sorts out where AOC, Hakeem Jeffries, and Mamdani actually landed, before Jesse speedruns the downballot races you may have missed and the guys debate whether Democrats should be hugging Joe Biden or running for the hills. Then it's fully international: Labour peer Lord Stewart Wood — former adviser to Gordon Brown and Ed Miliband, and proud Liverpool man — joins from across the pond to explain how Keir Starmer went from a historic landslide to the exit, why Reform and the Greens are eating the middle, and the parallels Americans should be watching closely. Plus the World Cup on home soil, England's familiar heartbreak, and the legend of Ed Miliband's bacon sandwich.

Today on Nobody Knows Anything, we're doing something a little different — Rob and Jesse crack open the mailbag and answer YOUR questions. We kick things off with 2028: which prospective candidate is most likely to surprise everyone by not running (Jesse's got a hot take on Whitmer, and we get into the Kamala of it all). Then we dig into the AI super PAC war engulfing the New York 12 race — how "Leading the Future" tried to make an example of Alex Boris and may have only helped him — and what it all means for the even bigger AI money fight coming in the midterms. Rob and Jesse also break down Mamdani's high-risk endorsement gamble, debate whether the World Cup can actually unite the country (Jesse says no, then plays a supercut that says maybe), and investigate the sauerkraut diet mysteriously sweeping the White House cabinet. PLUS: We get into the Michigan Senate mess and Abdul El-Sayed's path — and then, against our better judgment, we relitigate the exact moment we each knew we'd lost in 2016. (You asked. We're in therapy about it.)

Today on Nobody Knows Anything, Jesse is joined by special guest host Kyle Tharp — writer of the Chaotic ERA newsletter, filling in while Rob jets between US World Cup games. They go deep on Trump's $300 billion Iran "peace deal," a foreign policy blunder that has even Senate Republicans grumbling, though Jesse admits the small part of him that's just relieved to finally be getting the hell out. From there it's on to the home front, where a socialist surge is rolling through the midterms and the Georgia races have gone wild — from Rick Jackson buying himself a gubernatorial nomination to Democrats landing their dream opponent against Jon Ossoff. That leads into the great "are Ossoff's rallies even real?" debate as 2028 heats up, the murky world of secretly paid political influencers, and the nationwide data center backlash — including the Virginia civil war between Louise Lucas and "data center diva" Abigail Spanberger. Kyle also breaks down why Substack has become a big blue liberal bubble, and the guys count down Trump's five worst nicknames of all time.

PLUS: We breakdown the latest moves that three key Democrats are making as we all march on towards 2028, and Rob walks us through the 8 different ways you can tweet happy birthday to Dear Leader Donald Trump.

This week on Nobody Knows Anything, Rob and Jesse break down the breaking news on Donald Trump's new Director of National Intelligence, as well as the latest on the war in Iran (spoiler alert: it's not great!) and how Trump loves the inflation it has caused (his words, not ours). They also discuss the latest in two of this cycle's buzziest Senate races: the implications of Chuck Schumer's endorsement of Haley Stevens in Michigan, and how Graham Platner continues to campaign after his primary victory in Maine.
PLUS: Jesse walks through half a dozen other races that you should keep an eye on, and Rob and Jesse debate how Wes Moore has handled the inconsistencies in his personal story. All this and more this week on Nobody Knows Anything.

Donald Trump sits down with Kristen Welker for a Meet the Press interview that goes completely sideways - defending the January 6th rioters as his "dudes," insisting the election was stolen, and ultimately storming off the set. Jesse and Rob unpack whether this is just Trump being Trump or something more, and why a president stuck at 35% is making nervous Republicans suddenly very eager to keep their distance.
Plus: The Graham Platner saga refuses to die. Jesse and Rob watch 2028 hopefuls - Ro Khanna, AOC, Chris Murphy, Raphael Warnock - tie themselves in knots over the embattled Maine candidate, while Janet Mills runs the strangest non-campaign in living memory (she won't even tell you to vote for her).
Finally: a 2028 whip-around on the not-so-secret frenemy-ship between Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris, and Nancy Mace's total meltdown after Trump endorses her opponent in the South Carolina governor's race!

The New York Times bombshell on Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner that's had DC buzzing all week finally dropped. Jesse and Rob discuss whether the oysterman is cooked, and how Dems should handle the quasi-crisis in this must-win race.
Plus: Results from the biggest primary day of 2026 are in – except in California, which will be counting votes for weeks. What did we learn? Among other things, a lot about a Kansas sex-tech investor who might be Iowa's next governor.
Finally, Jesse and Rob welcome Mississippi Senate nominee Scott Colom to the pain cave, and come away thinking he could turn the state blue. (Yes, really!)

The Wall Street Journal reported that in the process of self-vetting, Graham Platner's wife disclosed that Platner had been sexting multiple women. The internet was abalze! Rob and Jesse talk about the revelations, what they mean, and what it means for Graham Platner's campaign.
Plus, the other personal life scandal: James Talarico has a girlfriend!
Then we talk about the big primaries that are coming up on Tuesday: California Gov, California Mayor, and the Iowa Senate race.
All of that, plus: Jill Biden's book tour and the very funny very sad article about JD Vance and Trump's relationship.
