Rachel and I met at The Great Escape Festival, Brighton, in May 2019.  I was shooting for Femme Magazine, a Brighton based publication, where I was assigned to shoot some portraits of Rachel for a feature.  We were greeted by the warmest, most kind natured girl, who was a joy to take imagery of.  Rachel and I stayed in contact after the shoot, funnily enough we went to school in the same small town and have a few friends in common.

This episode was an absolute delight to record, I had so much fun chatting with Rachel about her work as an artist and how she feels working in the industry.  We talk about how she got to where she is today, meeting her management, signing her publishing deal and also how she portrays herself online.  In this episode we also delve into Rachel’s brain about her creative style and how she began her career as a musician.

Maria and I were introduced online by the mighty Joolz, who I went to Uni with and Maria also knows!  Maria is an artist manager for the incredible alternative indie artist Sinead O’Brien, who has absolutely smashed 2020.  In this Episode, Maria and I talk a lot about the journey a manager embarks on when beginning to work with a new artist, her personal story with meeting Sinead, but also her history, why did she become a music manager and what experience did she need?

This episode is crucial to anyone who is looking to delve into the world of management, Maria shares some incredibly important advice as to what skills you need, but also where to even begin!  We had such a wonderful chat, the conversation flowed very easily and I felt we had known each other for years.

Lindsay and I first met back at Latitude Festival in 2019; I was so excited to work alongside her after admiring her work with IDLES for years and years.  Lindsay is fantastic, she talks in this Episode of Noisy Women about balancing her photography work with family life, founding AF Gang, as well as her latest endeavour in producing the incredible film, Don’t Go Gentle.  If you’re a budding music photographer, this episode is a must.

Coming from a musical background herself, Lindsay began by balancing her office job in transport with making music with her band.  She realised that this career path was not that of her dreams, that she wanted to be the other side of the barrier at Festivals and Gigs.  After sneaking into photo pits, she began shooting concerts and it’s all happened from there.  From being on the road with IDLES to shooting their gig at the O2 in London, Lindsay is an incredible asset to the photographic world.

Toni Coe-Brooker is the Programming and Production Manager at The Green Door Store in Brighton, as well as heading up the Save the Venues Campaign.  Toni is a really prominent and active member of the music industry, working in multiple venues over the last ten years, as well as making music herself.  From doing charity work to being on the road, I wanted to talk to her about how she got into working within her current job and any advice she may have for other creatives wanting to push into music.  This episode is a really important one, we talk about diversity in all avenues of the music industry and how things have changed over the last 10 years.

This is the final episode of Season 1 of Noisy Women, my wonderful baby of a podcast.  I feel sad that all episodes are now in the open but excited for what Season 2 may hold.  This pandemic has brought to light a lot of things, it has made most creative folk however realise just how unstable and uncertain this industry can be.  If you take one thing away from this outro, please let it be to support your creative buddies by sharing their work, buying their prints, streaming their songs and buying their merchandise.  Every little helps.  Thanks for listening yet again, I hope Season 2 is even bigger and better.  Thanks again to all of the delightful ladies who let me interview them, forever grateful to hear your stories and share time together.

Daisy Clark is a musician currently living and residing in Newquay, we first met at Boardmasters Festival in 2017 however she doesn’t remember it because we were both quite drunk.  Our friendship began in October 2017 when I moved down to Falmouth to study for my degree, we’ve been working together creatively but also growing our friendship together ever since.  Daisy became hot news after she released a cover of ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ the iconic song from Grease in 2016 which is when I first heard about her.  Daisy has an incredibly bubbly and charismatic personality with a huge tuft of curly blond hair, she’s made my life in Cornwall a much better place since becoming friends.

Sarah Gosling is a radio presenter for BBC Devon as well as the presenter of BBC Introducing in Devon and Cornwall. Sarah and I met two years ago in Exeter at a gig that was put on for independent venues week and hit it off straight away after I said to her face “you sound exactly the same in person as you do on the radio!”.  I have always admired Sarah’s work ethic and how dedicated she is to her job. I'm very lucky to have worked alongside her multiple times and I’m very excited for you to hear her story, highlighting both the highs and lows of battling anxiety whilst on air.  Sarah is one of the most down to earth, kind and interesting individuals I’ve ever worked and come across, the support she has given to my friends' careers over the last couple of years has been incredibly valued as well as the support that she has shown to my creative work.

Tilly is a wonderful human being who I crossed paths with for the very first time at Latitude Festival in 2019 where I was interning as a Photographer for Festival Republic.  I was required to shoot Lazy Day (Tilly’s solo project now supported by her uber cool three male band mates), we hit it off straight away and it was so lovely to feel welcomed instantly by a group of people.  Since then we have avidly kept in touch online.  Tilly was part of ReBalance, a program created by Festival Republic to help raise the numbers of women playing gigs and pushing out music to a larger audience.  Tilly is currently studying her PHD, as well as being a rock star with an orange guitar, if that doesn’t say cool music chick then what does.
