That Just Happened

• 5th year declined.  Several players had their 5th year option declined this week.  Among those are Mitchell Trubisky, the Jags’ running back Leonard Fournette, John Ross WR of the Bengals, Solomon Thomas of the Niners and Corey Davis, wide receiver for the Titans.

• The Bengals released Andy Dalton this week.  The former second round pick quickly signed a one year deal with the Dallas Cowboys.

• After quite a bit of uncertainty leading up to last week's episode, Jameis Winston did sign with the Saints eventually.  His 1 year deal is worth 1.1 million.  

• The KC Chiefs picked up the 5th year option for Patrick Mahomes. No surprise.  Mahomes says that he’s focused on winning another title, but is confident a long term deal will get done.

• With College football having more variables to consider than the NFL in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NFL may play games on Saturdays this fall.  

• CeeDee Lamb is going to wear 88 at the request of owner Jerry Jones.

• Christian McCaffrey signed the richest running back deal in NFL history on a new deal that will keep him with the Panthers through 2025.  Christian McCaffrey signed a 4 year, $64,000,000 contract with the Carolina Panthers, including an average annual salary of $16,000,000. In 2020, McCaffrey will earn a base salary of $2,816,090, while carrying a cap hit of $5,485,872 and a dead cap value of $5,485,872.

• Those few incomplete deals due to team physicals have been completed.  Todd Gurley, DeAndre Hopkins and David Johnson are now officially in their new jerseys.

• The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking at potential trade offers for their former first round pick OJ Howard according to former NFL Executive Michael Lombardi. 

• Leonard Fournette is also being shopped as the Jags are looking for potential trade partners. 

• The Bears released tight end Trey Burton. He had 2 years left on his 4 year contract.

• Matt Breida signed his one year tender with the 49ers on Thursday. Matt Breida signed a 1 year, $3,259,000 contract with the San Francisco 49ers, including an average annual salary of $3,259,000. In 2020, Breida will earn a base salary of $3,259,000, while carrying a cap hit of $3,259,000

• According to the Miami Dolphins’ GM Chris Grier, the team is considering both Justin Herbert out of Oregon and Tua Tagovailoa from Alabama at the 5th pick later this week. “They’re both interesting people, they’re both good kids.” were his words.

• The wonderlic scores for the 2020 quarterback draft class were leaked to the public as they always do. Tua Tagovailoa's score of 13 was the lowest in the class.

• Mark emailed in and wants to know what we think about OBJ being treated as a low end WR1 in most pre-season rankings.  He feels that he should be a later pick due to the trade rumors and general decline in play along with the injury issues.
