Episode 8- Ileana Ferreras is a trauma-sensitive coach who is also NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) certified and an ICF credentialed Professional Certified Coach.
Ileana talks about how her experience of suffering 5 losses in 50 months led her on a personal journey of healing. Instead of letting her grief and trauma define her, Ileana did (and continues to do) the personal work necessary to heal. She guides us through this important conversation of trauma with ease and provides practical advice on healing trauma in our own lives.
While trauma is not a topic we think of as fun and light, it is one we need to address. We are currently exposed to the likelihood of trauma associated with Covid & the pandemic as well as racism/racial violence and mass shootings occurring here in the US. That's in addition to any personal trauma we may be experiencing. There is hope for healing from trauma but first we need to talk about it.
Episode 7- Michelle Wescott thought that “driving and striving” to get more degrees was what kept her from living under a bridge, until she started coaching. Michelle talks about why she chose to coach with Linda and the impact coaching had on her. Michelle provides an honest assessment of what it took to transform her life with the support of Linda as her coach. Linda also talks about the difference between, coaching, therapy and consulting, offers tips on choosing the right coach and how to know whether coaching is right for you, right now.
This conversation picks up where we left off in episode 5. Kathy explains why we shouldn't use the term, "tribe" unless we're a native American, that meritocracy is a lie and what has the power to end racism. Get ready to open your heart and your mind to what's being said and be willing to doubt your current beliefs about racism.
Get ready to have your current beliefs about race and racism challenged. In part one of this two part conversation, Linda's guest is Kathy Castania. In this episode, Kathy shares how some policies meant to help people of color, like affirmative action, actually caused more harm than good. She also explains why white people have a hard time understanding the extent of racism and why it is a white problem. Linda also recounts the moment when her eyes were opened to the depth of racism in our country. This is not a feel good conversation and I hope you have the courage to listen. I invite you to open your heart and your mind to what's being said and be willing to doubt your current beliefs about racism. Kathy Castania is a diversity consultant who retired from Cornell University after 23 years as a Senior Extension Associate with the Cornell Migrant Program. Kathy has facilitated racism and diversity workshops at both the National and State levels and served as the Multicultural Education Coordinator for the NYS Migrant Education Program for 12 years. Kathy is one of the founding members of SURJ ROC (Showing Up for Racial Justice) and is co-chair of the Education Committee.
