As the climate changes, California farmers and ranchers are turning to cover crops.

Last year, according to a UC Davis report, the drought cost California’s agricultural economy about one-point-eight-billion-dollars. One response to this—and to climate change in general—has been an expanded use of cover crops, as Byrhonda Lyons reports.

Young adults with autism usually need help integrating with the world around them. A new program in Santa Rosa is out to provide exactly that.

The number of people with autism in Sonoma County is both growing and aging. A newly launched program at Becoming Independent in Santa Rosa is designed to aid young adults on the spectrum in navigating life beyond school.

It’s well established that tick bites can trigger Lyme disease. But the small insects are carriers for other ailments, too.

Rain means Tick season in Northern CA, which brings the risk of Lyme disease... and more. Researchers in Hopland have recently identified two new tick-borne diseases, bringing the total found there to eight. Reporter Valerie Kim has details.

Dates have been set for a week-long CSU-wide faculty strike in April, if no contract agreement has been reached by then.

With prolonged contract talks apparently headed for impasse, The California Faculty Association is making plans for a state-wide strike in Mid-April.

In 2012, the CFA announced plans for a rolling strike across the CSU campuses during stalled talks in the previous bargaining cycle. A new documentary tells the history of the Black Panther Party from the perspective of surviving party members.

The Black Panthers may have been the most polarizing political movement in 1960s America. Current Santa Rosa resident Elbert “Big Man” Howard was one of their founding members, and recounts some of the group’s early history.

Big Man Howard is also interviewed in the recent documentary film, The Black Panthers: Vanguard of The Revolution. He’ll be on hand to answer questions following a free public screening of the film at the Rialto Cinemas in Sebastopol, tonight at 7pm. Pray for rain, but not too much -- Heavy rains heighten risk for landslides

Thirty four years ago a catastrophic rainstorm in early January triggered landslides and floods around the San Francisco Bay area. The worst disaster was in the mountain side community of Love Creek in the Santa Cruz mountains, where a large part of a mountain gave way just after midnight on January 5th. The slide took the lives of fourteen people. KRCB’s Danielle Venton recently visited the site with two Ben Lomond residents who were part of the slide’s rescue and recovery work …

The remaking of the former Community Hospital campus on Chanate Hill in Santa Rosa has taken another step forward.

A commercial center, new county offices, major street improvements, a sizable park and a variety of new homes and apartments are anticipated in the redevelopment of 117 acres around Santa Rosa’s old Community Hospital buildings. County supervisors approved a big step toward that vision yesterday.
