For the past 50 years, only members of the Church of Jesus

Christ of Latter Day Saints have been able to visit the Mormon Temple in

Oakland. For two more weeks, anyone can walk through the doors.

Since 1964, when it officially opened, a local church has

been off-limits to all but members of the faith — until this month. KRCB News

A local activist group is suing Sonoma County over the

investigation records in the Andy Lopez case.

Under a state that took effect at the beginning of this

year, law enforcement agencies are now required to release documents connected

to misconduct investigations. Here in Sonoma County, the Sheriff’s Department

has made public documents related to five investigations including the shooting

death of 13-year Andy Lopez by then Sheriff’s Deputy Erick Gelhaus. But

everyone agrees the Andy Lopez case documents are not complete. KRCB’s Adia

got together in Santa Rosa to talk about the Green New Deal. We’ll have that

story next week. Earlier this month, we spoke with a champion of the Sonoma

County coast – who has been raising the alarm about the Trump administration’s

plans to drill in protected areas. “Ocean Hero” Richard Charter spoke with KRCB

A radical new proposal aims to confront Climate Change.

Local environmental activists are coming together for a Town

Hall tonight to discuss options for confronting climate change. The event is

hosted by several local non-profits and will focus on rallying support for the

“Green New Deal.” Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and others introduced

this policy package in February with the goal of curbing emissions and creating

more jobs in green energy. KRCB’ Steve Mencher spoke with one of the organizers

of the event, Daisey Pistey-Lyhne, about her hopes for Green New Deal and why

Sonoma County should support it.

Stacey Abrams has been called “the first” many times in her

life. Most recently, she was the first black woman to give the formal response

to the President’s State of the Union Address. Stacey Abrams was the first

Black woman to be nominated by a major party to run for governor. Abrams

narrowly lost that race in Georgia last year and is now entertaining the idea

of running for president.  Abrams writes

about daring to dream big and following those ambitions to fruition in her

book, Lead from the Outside. She will be speaking in Santa Rosa next week about

the book and talked with KRCB’s Adia White about the lessons she hopes to pass

on to America’s next generation of leaders.

Abrams will speak at the Luther Burbank Center on Monday at
