  • Grist Magazine Finds Link Between Pollution and Infant Mortality in San Bernadino County – Wednesday, June 5, 2019

A new investigation finds that pollution from the online
shopping industry may be linked to high rates of infant mortality in a
    California count.

The online shopping economy appears to be having a deadly
impact on children’s health in San Bernardino County.  A new investigation by Grist magazine reveals
that high rates of infant mortality there may be linked to smog emitted by
diesel trucks transporting goods. KRCB News Director Steve Mencher spoke with
Justine Calma, who broke the story for Grist magazine.

  • KPCC’s “The Big One” Encourages Disaster Preparedness Through Storytelling – June 4, 2019

What’s stopping you from preparing for fire season?

It’s nearly summer and with the change in seasons comes the
need to prepare for wildfires. If you’re finding it hard to go through your
disaster checklist, KPCC’s Arwen Nicks has some advice for you. Nicks is part
of a team of producers on a podcast called “The Big One,” which talks about
what will happen with a major earthquake hits. She and her team visited Santa
Rosa in April to give advice to a group of emergency management officials on
how to effectively share information. KRCB’s Adia White talked with Nicks about

  • Santa Rosa Planners Look Ahead… Far, Far Ahead – May 31, 2019

What will you be doing on this date in 31 years? You may not
know, but Santa Rosa city planners are hard at work imagining that future.

In 2009, Santa Rosa created a state-mandated plan that
looked ahead to the year 2035. The plan made certain assumptions and was
created to optimize the city’s chance to thrive. That was before the annexation
of Roseland, and before the fires of two years ago. Now, the process has begun
again, with planners looking ahead to the Santa Rosa of 2050.
KRCB news director Steve Mencher spoke with Supervising Planner Jessica Jones
to find out how the process is going.

Meetings, where the public can provide input into the 2050 General Plan, are happening throughout the month of June, including Saturday. Find details at norcalpublicmedia.org.
