Remember the story of the three little pigs? One fire expert

reenacted the tale to show homeowners which building material is the most fire

resistant.

As we head into summer and hot weather, homeowners are

looking for ways to protect their properties from wildfire. KRCB’s Adia White

attended an event at the Santa Rosa Junior College Training Center hosted by

the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety. The highlight of the

event was a demonstration burn to showcase which building materials are the

most flammable.

Remember the media frenzy around the free-climb of the Dawn

Wall at Yosemite’s El Capitan in 2015? We’ll talk with one of the climbers

about his life since then.

Kevin Jorgeson and his rock-climbing partner Tommy Caldwell,

free-climbed the Dawn Wall of Yosemite’s El Capitan in 2015. It was a historic

achievement. Their story is one of several told in a film we’re presenting

tonight at 9 p.m. on KRCB TV called “El Cap Report.” KRCB news

director Steve Mencher talked with Jorgeson when the film came out last year

about how his climb has encouraged others to share their own stories with him.

weekend.

Months after the Camp Fire destroyed almost all of Paradise,

our news team worked with Chico-based North State Public Radio to share

recovery advice from Santa Rosa fire survivors. That story recently won first

place in the Public Radio Journalists Association awards for best

collaboration. Today we’ll share part of that episode “Letter from Santa Rosa

to Paradise”, hosted by veteran reporter Tess Vigeland.

This year, our news team won three awards from the Public Media Journalists Association. We’re highlighting those stories this week. Our series on Roseland health, produced in partnership with local bilingual station KBBF, won second place in its division for collaboration. For one of the reports in this series, KRCB’s Adia White visited Roseland Elementary on their first day of school. Ninety percent of students in this district qualify for free and reduced priced lunch, but in the summer, families must find other options.
