This is the first sermon in a series on the prophecy of Isaiah. This sermon introduces the author and the major themes of the book, focusing on the chief elements of the gospel message.

This exposition of chapter 9 of the 1689 London Confession focuses on the doctrine of the human will, unpacking first of all what is meant and what is not meant by "free will." Then it continues through the other four paragraphs, which outline the four-fold state of the human will at various times in covenantal history.

Christian, have you found yourself cold and wayward at times? In this text, God admonishes His People to return to Him and find restoration and spiritual healing. When our hearts are cold, we must press on to know the Lord; He assures us that our seeking Him will not be in vain!

God instructs His children to take heart even in their trials and temptations. They can do so because He has promised to give wisdom to all those who call upon Him in faith. This sermon is an encouragement to all who struggle in the face of trouble.

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." These words have comforted and encouraged weary sinners ever since Christ spoke them. Today He continues to graciously call broken people to Himself.

The difference between the true gospel and a false gospel is what it boasts in. So many religious messages focus on the performance of certain acts in order to be right. The Christian gospel focuses attention on the Lord Jesus Christ alone.

Those whose burdens have been borne by Christ gladly bear the burdens of others. In this text, believers are encouraged to bear the material and financial burdens of gospel ministers and of other brothers and sisters who are truly in need.
