Entering the 2nd chapter of the Book of Jonah, we come to the prayer of Jonah. Delivered by God through a prepared fish, Jonah recalls his prayer for mercy in the deep. In this sermon, we will look at that prayer, along with his merciful deliverance via the fish. I pray that we will come to the same conclusion as Jonah did- Salvation belongs to the Lord.

As we come to the closing verses of the Book of the Prophet Jonah, we come to Jonah's reaction to the amazing movement of grace shown in Nineveh. Jonah is displeased and angry over what God has done. Our great God gives His prophet a much needed lesson on mercy. It is a lesson which we also need to hear and heed.

As we continue through the first chapter of the Book of Jonah, we see the prophet in the midst of the great storm, following him in judgment. While this passage does remind us of the awesome and righteous judgment of God on sin- it also reminds us of the amazing mercy He graciously bestows upon sinners.

Having seen Jonah rescued from the depth of the Mediterranean, he receives the call of God, once more, to go to Nineveh. In doing so, Jonah declares a message of coming judgment. How will the people of Nineveh respond? How too will God's prophet?

As we begin a new series in the Book of the Prophet Jonah, we will look at the first three verses of this great book. Why was Jonah running from the presence of God-- Why would a tested prophet run from this mission-- In thinking about those questions, we will see that it is never right nor safe to withstand the living God.

As we come to the end of the second chapter of the Book of the Prophet Jonah, we find him spit upon the shore. This amazing moment is a type of the coming Christ. What is more, it is a sign. During His ministry, our Lord, while refusing the call for more signs, said that only one sign would be offered them: the sign of the Prophet Jonah. What did Jesus mean by this? We will explore this text today.

Our journey through the Book of the Prophet Haggai concludes with a look at God's promise of blessing upon His people. Not only are these current blessings, but it includes a Messianic promise as well. As God once more declares His Davidic signet ring, He is signaling the coming of the true source of blessing for the people of God.

This week, we journey into the the Book of the Prophet Haggai. Haggai is called by God to deliver His Word to the remnant of Israel that has returned from exile. While their return is for the purpose of rebuilding the Temple, they have left it in ruins, arguing that it was not the proper time to undertake such a work. Haggai is sent by God to challenge them. He instructs them to get about this important task, revealing that their many miseries abound as a result of their disobedience.

Continuing into the second chapter of the Book of the Prophet Haggai, we find the people discouraged at the prospect of a new Temple that was not as great as the one Solomon built. God sends Haggai to proclaim that this will not come to pass- -the glory of this latter Temple shall be greater than the former.-
