Returning to Hebrews chapter 3, we find the author tackle the subject of faithfulness and the ministry of Christ. Christ was perfectly faithful to the mission on which His Father sent Him; He was, and is, perfectly faithful to the people of God. Yet the call of the author of this letter is that his hearers would recognize their own call to faithfulness, lest they turn away from the living God and (as with the wilderness generation) die never having reached the land of promise.

As we continue through Hebrews 2, we see the text explain that Jesus came into the world, on this mission, as He did, because was fitting for Him to do so. In other words, once we understand what Christ came to complete, we will understand that it could only be accomplished in this way. Christ became a man, suffering and being tested, that He might become our merciful and faithful High Priest. In this way, Christ became the author and captain of our salvation. Praise the Lord-

Moving into the third chapter of the Letter to the Hebrews, we see the author state that Christ is greater than Moses. This argument is very important to the argument of the letter. As we continue through Hebrews chapter 2, we see that the Scriptures argue that Christ must suffer, then be exalted in this mission of salvation. He did, after all, come to be made lower than the angels for the suffering of death. He did so that, by the grace of God, He might taste death for us.

As we return to The Letter to the Hebrews, we come to the culmination of the argument of the second chapter. Christ had to come into the world, adding true and full humanity to His perfect divinity, in order that God's redemptive plan would be fulfilled. This is because Christ had to be both our perfect sacrifice and our merciful and faithful High Priest. As we continue through the Second chapter of the Letter to the Hebrews, the author picks up some of the key themes of chapter one as he establishes that it is Christ, not angels, who rules the world to come. This truth, established on Psalm 8, speaks to God's plan to restore in Christ what was lost in Adam.

Continuing through Hebrews chapter 2, the author has explained that Christ came to be our High Priest and atonement, but there is another aspect to His glorious completed work: He came to "destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil".
