JuanCarlos Gonzalez is a photographer based in Woodstock, Vermont though he was born and raised in Puerto Rico.

You may have heard of JuanCarlos because of his incredible body of work photographing Vermont female farmers, which is now a book and photography exhibit showing in different areas.

He travels all over for his work and has been featured in many publications including National Geographic and Vogue Italia, as well as some more local publications, but his most proud moment was when he was featured in his hometown newspaper that became a full circle experience.

Together we talk about what that felt like, his journey into photography, what he likes to do in his free time, and what it has been like to work on the Vermont Female Farmers

Welcome to today’s podcast! In this episode I talk with Mateo of Prophecy Chocolate, based in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Mateo grew up in Massachusetts and spent time working on many organic farms in the US and South America.

He spent about 3 years living in Peru and learning how to cultivate many crops including Cacao from generations of local rural farmers.

Together we talk about the journey that lead him to Peru and chocolate making and importing and creating high quality products using direct trade and ingredients, as well as local New England ingredients.

Beyond the business he teaches farming and gardening and you’ll often find him in the woods learning from nature and enjoying the abundance of the harvest. I hope you enjoy this episode and learning about Mateo’s journey!

Welcome to another episode. Today we have Amber Jackson on the podcast. Amber is a Chicago native  now residing in Rhode Island, with a passion for tea, people, and Black culture.

In 2019 she launched The Black Leaf Tea & Culture Shop as a way to share her love of tea, engage with the community, and celebrate Black culture.

Her teas are beautifully blended and a reflection of her background in food science and her interest in nutrition.

Together we discuss how she started up monthly Young Black Professionals Mixer and Tea Talks, both were ways to create safe spaces for her local Black Community and bring them together for fun and also insightful conversation.
