So, there’s good news and bad news. The good news is that it’s time for the Northern Soul Podcast. The bad news is that this is the last one in the current series.

The Podcast will be back in June in time for the festival season, replete with exclusive interviews and great tracks. In the meantime, Lucy McNamara‘s guest this week is Alison Bell, curator of the phenomenon that is Bop Local. With the slogan ‘keeping babysitters happy’, Bop Local has taken the suburbs by storm. If you haven’t been, you’re missing out. Its younger sibling Laugh Local is also going great guns.

On Lucy’s playlist this weeks is the usual gorgeous melting pot of tunes including songs from First Aid Kit, Nancy Elizabeth, Aquilo, Summer Heart and Ultravox.

It’s Sunday night. Grab yourself a glass of wine, cuddle up to your special someone (perfectly OK if that means your cat) and listen to the Northern Soul Podcast.

This week Lucy McNamara chats to Bolton-born James Holt, a 20-year-old singer/songwriter tipped for big things. We think this young guy has a bright future ahead of him.

Lucy also plays tunes from, among others, Shauna Mackin, Vance Joy, Foals and Daughter.

This week Lucy chats to Hatcham Social at Manchester’s Soup Kitchen. Hatcham Social have been described by The Guardian as ‘irrestistible’ while Tim Burgess calls them ‘a wonderful pop group with the world’s coolest drummer’ (Finnigan Kidd, formerly of Klaxons).

Lucy also plays tunes by, among others, Francois & the Atlas Mountains, Shy Nature, Lucius and Boy & Bear.

It’s that time again, time for the lovely jubbly Northern Soul Podcast.

This week Lucy McNamara meets René. Over the past five years, this Manchester band has performed its original funk at venues across Britain. According to the band, its music is “fabulously freaky foot-tapping funk”. Listen to what they had to say to Northern Soul and enjoy tunes from, among others, Flyte, The Polyphonic Spree, The Coves and Kishi Bashi.

It’s Sunday evening so it’s time for The Northern Soul Podcast.

This week Lucy McNamara chats to psych-folk duo Bird to Beast. The darlings of BBC 6music, this married pair from Lancashire spin magic from the sounds of yesteryear to create something fresh and unique. Their harmonies tip a hat to the pop nous of greats like The Beach Boys, Kate Bush and The Beatles as well as contemporary singer-songwriters like Rufus Wainwright, Andrew Bird and James Mercer.

Also on Lucy’s playlist this week are, among others, Kid Congo and The Pink Monkey Birds, Cate Le Bon, Metronomy and Blood Orange.
