In the Greco-Roman first century world into which Jesus was born the “pecking order” of social status was paramount in all of life. As Cicero said, “rank must be preserved”. Where you sat in the pecking order of society was the most important thing to discover and defend.

Jesus Christ profoundly affected how Western Society cares today.

Democracy has it’s roots firmly embedded in the life and teachings of Jesus! Jesus taught the value of equality, he demonstrated a life lived under the rule and reign of His Father in heaven and he promised freedom to those who would receive his grace.

Jesus both taught and demonstrated through his life and relationships that women and children are intrinsically valued by creator God. In contrast to the prevailing culture of His day, Jesus lifted women and children upward to a place of human equality in every way.

Jesus taught that we should pray for our enemies and forgive them for sinning against us. He modelled this most profoundly in dying on a cross for the sin of the world and asking the father to “forgive them, they know not what they do”.
