How would you treat someone if you already knew they were going to betray you?
In John 13:11, Jesus knew exactly what Judas was planning. He knew about the false loyalty, secret decisions, and betrayal already forming in Judas’s heart—yet Jesus still washed his feet.
Jesus was not weak, naïve, or unaware. He simply refused to allow another person’s betrayal to change His character.
When someone hurts or disrespects us, it is tempting to believe their behavior gives us permission to become bitter, cruel, or vengeful. But another person’s lack of integrity does not justify losing our own.
Christ-like love does not mean ignoring warning signs, tolerating repeated betrayal, or allowing unsafe people continued access to your life. Forgiveness and reconciliation are not always the same. You can forgive someone while establishing firm boundaries and accepting that trust must be rebuilt.
You can remain loving without becoming foolish, forgiving without becoming defenseless, and compassionate without surrendering discernment.
You may need to step away, speak the truth, or establish a boundary—but you do not have to allow betrayal to corrupt your heart.
Let God handle their heart, and ask Him to protect yours.
