The reason that it is so important that we grow is because we are either growing spiritually or we are becoming stagnant and indifferent. Generally we are moving one-way or the other. It doesn’t seem that we can stay still in our Christian lives for very long. If we are not careful we get comfortable and complacent in our spiritual lives and stop seeking to grow spiritually. When this happens we become stagnant in our relationship with Christ and indifferent to the things of God.

As we look at Paul's prayer in this passage we see that God works in me so that I can love deeper, understand more, live purely, and be fruitful for His glory.
