Paul reminds the Corinthians of their individual accountability to God. He reminds them that what they do in this life carries over into the next. He’s reminding them of these things because he wants them to “take heed” to what they do and focus now on doing those things that prepare them for eternity. He explains that they prepare for eternity by choosing the right materials to build with. The materials we build with are the actions, reactions, priorities, and attitudes we devote our little bit to accomplishing. This means we are constantly preparing ourselves for eternity. Unfortunately many Christians allow their sinful nature to take control in their lives and they go from being spiritual to being carnal. Everyone in here will fall into one of these three categories. In fact, that is the central truth we need to know. Right now, I am a natural, spiritual, or a carnal person. The question each one of us needs to answer is, who am I?

It's urgent because heaven and hell are determined by our connection to Jesus. Everything about our eternal destination rises and falls on our connection with Jesus. This message gives us practical ways to live out this important and urgent task.

God doesn’t pick His team the way humans do. When we pick our teams we pick those who have the greatest abilities that will be the greatest asset in getting our team to victory. God on the other hand didn’t pick His team like this. As the old saying says, God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called. God's greatness isn't limited or hindered because we aren't great. So the central truth we should see from this is: The greatness of God ensures my life can glorify God.

He explains that since God doesn’t necessarily do things in the way that we expect, then we see His wisdom and power in an unlikely place, the Gospel. So from this, the central truth I want you to remember is this: The Gospel exposes me to the power of God. There are three ways the power of the Gospel affects us.
